Monday's Prep Volleyball: T-Wolves Fend Off Montesano in Dogfight

MORTON – The Timberwolves were able to find their way back from a two game deficit in order to claim to a 3-2 victory over Montesano here Monday night in non-league volleyball happenings.

The 1A Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead over Morton-White Pass with wins of 16-25, and 17-25 in the first two sets of the night. However, the T-Wolves did not put their tails between their legs and managed to play their way out of the doghouse by rattling off three straight wins by scores of 25-23, 25-22, and 15-9.

“We started really slow, they were able to keep building they were able to win those close ones,” said MWP coach Tammy Kelly. “It was a slow start but we were able to pick it up.”

For MWP Jacie Dunlap and Taylor Nilius notched eight, and seven kills, respectively. Carly King added four kills for the T-Wolves while dishing a sweet 16 assists. Taylor Hazen turned in a perfect night from the service strip on 15 tries.

MWP (3-0) will play at Onalaska on Tuesday.

Columbia Adventist Academy Outlasts Oakville



OAKVILLE — Oakville and Columbia Adventist Academy battled for five sets here on Monday, but Columbia Adventist prevailed 3-2 in a non-league volleyball match.

Oakville won the first set 25-17, but Columbia Adventist bounced back with a 25-22 second set win.

The Acorns battled to a third set win 26-24, but Columbia Adventist crushed Oakville in the fourth set, 25-5 and carried that momentum to a 15-10 fifth set win to earn the overall victory.

Joanna Kukhar had five kills and Alexis Starr-Wright added five aces. Shelby Petty contributed four aces for the Acorns.

“I think they came out with great energy but allowed themselves to be their own worst enemy,” Oakville coach Jessica Spitzer said. “We battled back on some of them, but that fourth set, they watched the score go up and their energy level dropped. They just could not battle in that one.”

Oakville (0-3) hosts Crescent on Thursday in a 1B Coastal League game.
