TUMWATER — Rochester picked up their first win in program history here at Tumwater Lanes on Monday when they dumped Tumwater 13-5 in a 1A/2A Evergreen Conference girls bowling match.
The Warriors topped Tumwater 539 to 451 in game one but dropped the second game by a score of 489 to 438. Rochester was able to get over on Tumwater in the combined scoring baker games at the end in order to seal their inaugural victory.
Rochester was able to win despite entering the match without two of their regular varsity bowlers. In their stead were Erin Huriavi and Luz Martinez. Regular varsity bowlers Zee Lowry and Amerika Jones helped to secure the first game with scores of 142 and 122, respectively. Jones rolled a 106 in her second game and Martinez rolled near identical games of 98 and 97.
Rochester (1-4, 1-2 conference) will host Montesano for a conference match on Wednesday at Fairway Lanes.
Bearcats Bowl Over Bobcats
On Monday W.F. West was able to overcome their least impressive performance of their sterling season when they bested Aberdeen 15-3 in 1A/2A Evergreen Conference girls bowling action.
The win keeps the Bearcats undefeated on the season and adds a critical conference victory to their tally. Perhaps more importantly the win showed coach Donnie Bunker that his team can roll with the punches when the pins don’t fall their way.
“The girls really struggled with the shot tonight. It was a good shot, but the girls were not used to that much oil on the lanes,” Bunker told The Chronicle. “It was good for us to see something different so we can identify the lane conditions sooner. Hopefully that experience helps us as the season progresses.”
W.F. West was able to take the first game by a score of 3-2 with Ellie Bunker pacing the Bearcats with her score of 187. Brianna Powe added a score of 151 in that match and Jessica Loflin rolled a 147.
In game two W.F. West took four of the five pairings. Those combined scores gave the Bearcats a 193-pin advantage after two games.
In the Baker games W.F. West downed Aberdeen 158 to 111 and then 163 to 114.
“We started out on fire in that game and were derailed by some tough 10 pins,” noted Bunker. “We have to make sure we pick up our spares if we are going to compete against the best teams in the state.”
W.F. West (4-0) will host Black Hills on Wednesday at for a conference match and will travel to Kelso for a non-league match on Friday.
