ROCHESTER — The Warriors used a 24-point fourth quarter in order to best Woodland 64-56 here on Monday in their non-league 2A girls basketball contest.

The two teams were all knotted at 40 heading into the final quarter after Rochester had taken a 26-20 lead into the intermission. The Warriors managed to extend that lead out to double digits for a time in the third quarter before the Beavers stormed back to make a game of it.

The Warriors outpaced Woodland 24-16 in the final frame in order to secure the home court victory.

Paige Winter scored 23 second-half points and led all players with 31 points in the game. She connected on five three point attempts and added nine rebounds.

Rochester was able to gather 47 rebounds on the night, including 20 of the second chance offensive variety.

Rochester’s point guard, Lexi Jones-Sederberg, led the team with 15 rebounds (nine offensive) and posted yet another double-double with ten points. Emily Elkins added three points and ten rebounds.

Rochester coach Davina Serdahl was also pleased with the performance of freshman Sofie Sands who scored six points and took two charges on the defensive end.

“We kind of did everything we could to try to give that game away before we finally hit some free throws down the end,” noted Serdahl. “Paige really carried us again. She’s really turning into more of a dynamic player.”

Rochester (5-3) will host Tenino on Friday at 7 p.m. for round two of the Scatter Creek Showdown.

ONALASKA — The Loggers needed all four quarters to separate themselves but managed to best Hoquiam 40-35 here on Monday night in non-league girls basketball action.

The teams were tied at 27-all following a third quarter where each team scored eight points, but a 13-8 run in the fourth quarter by Onalaska provided their final advantage.
