W.F. West only lost one match to Tumwater for a 5-1 win in an Evergreen 2A Conference boys tennis match in Chehalis on Monday.

Tumwater’s Ethan Dillon recorded the lone win in the No. 1 singles spot, taking down Andrew Pak 6-2, 6-2.

In No. 2 singles, Luke Walters defeated Noah Tompkins 6-1, 6-3. Gabe Cuestas needed three sets to top Tumwater’s Peyton Peterson, 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.

“The thing I really liked is there were tough matches,” W.F. West coach Jack State said. “Gabe lost that first set and battled back. The third set was a real battle.”

The Bearcats top doubles pair of Joseph Chung and Cade Cameron earned the win in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. The No. 2 duo of Caleb Walters and Colin Slattery needed three sets to top Tumwater’s Sawyer Loughgherd and Alex Abbott, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

“Caleb and Colin won the first set and they didn’t play well at all,” State said. “To come back and beat them in the third was really good. It could have got into their minds, but the best set was their third set.”

In No. 3 doubles, Jacob Blomdahl and Christian Iverson won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

W.F. West (7-1, 5-0) hosts Ridgefield on Tuesday in a non-league match.
