Monday's Boys Basketball: Pirates Shoot Past Kalama

Posted

ADNA — Lyle Metzenberg turned in a double-double here Monday night as Adna turned away Kalama by a score of 52-39 in a non-league 2B boys basketball affair.

Metzenberg scored a game-high 16 points and led the Pirates with 17 rebounds to help Adna endure a late charge from the Chinooks.

The fourth quarter was the only frame in which Kalama outscored the Pirates.

“They started us over instead of us turning them over. We started playing a little bit not to lose in that fourth quarter and started letting them comeback a little bit,” said Adna coach Luke Salme.

Before that, though, Adna had run out to a 42-27 lead thanks to active hands and feet on defense that led to 18 steals. Cole Fay and Austen Apperson led the defensive chaos with five steals each.

“The defense was good throughout tonight,” said Salme. “(Fay and Apperson) always lead that defensive energy. They are relentless and neither of them saw the bench so they can go for a full four quarters.”

Apperson added 15 points for Adna while Trevor Minkoff notched 11 points.

Adna (2-1) will host Winlock on Thursday.
