Monday's 2B Softball: Snow’s Homer Lifts Adna Past Toutle Lake

Posted

ADNA — Skye Snow’s home run in the fifth inning broke up a tie game, and Adna held on to beat Toutle Lake, 8-5, here Monday in Central 2B League softball action.

Snow’s one-out shot put the Pirates up 8-4, and Abby Kruger’s double brought in another run three batters later.

“We didn’t adjust to the offspeed pitching that we saw today and we need to adjust a lot sooner than we did. In the fifth inning, I think we had three hitters that adjusted and went opposite field, staying back, getting through it with some real good swings,” Adna coach Bruce Pocklington said. “We need to do that a little bit sooner than the fifth.”

Toutle Lake got an RBI double from Kaylee Florek in the top of the seventh, but Jenikka Poppe got her lone strikeout of the game on the next at-bat to end the contest.

Poppe walked two and allowed three earned-runs to get the win in the circle, and went 2 for 3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs.

Haley Rainey was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, while Darian Humphrey, Kruger and Snow were all 2 for 3.

Florek, Casey Wentz and Katelynn Redmill each had two hits for the Ducks (2-1).

“We haven’t played anybody tough yet, so this is good for us. We need to have close games and learn how to compete a little bit,” Pocklington said. “It’s a Monday, and we didn’t think we were going to play. All those things entailed, I’ll take a win.”

Adna (3-0) plays at Winlock on Tuesday.

Williams’ Grand Slam Helps Tigers Past Winlock

WINLOCK — Ada Williams hit a grand slam, Abbi Music was near-perfect and Napavine crushed Winlock, 14-0, here Monday in Central 2B League softball action.

Music, the Tigers’ senior pitcher, faced 16 batters in the five inning game, striking out 13 without a walk and giving up one hit — a single to Cheleena Squibb with one out in the fifth inning. Squibb was the Cardinals’ only baserunner in the contest, but Music struck out the next two batters to end the game.

“It was a good, clean hit,” Napavine coach Chad Williams said. “But other than that, Abbi took care of business.”

Williams hit her grand slam in the Tigers’ six-run fourth inning, and finished 3 for 4 with five RBIs. Music was 3 for 4 with a double and drove in two runs, Cortney Oster was 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Solana Sanchez went 2 for 4 with a double and drove in four runs.

Squibb played well behind the plate for Winlock, Williams said, and the schools’ athletic directors did a nice job in scouting field conditions and making the decision to move the game — originally slated for Napavine — to Winlock.

Napavine (5-0, 4-0 league) plays at Toutle Lake on Thursday. Winlock (1-4, 0-4 league) hosts Adna on Tuesday.

Titans Take Down Chinooks

PE ELL — The Titans collected 13 hits against Kalama here on Monday to earn a 12-2 win in a five-innings Central 2B League softball game.

Katie Adkins pitched the entire game for Pe Ell-Willapa Valley, striking out four while allowing two runs on three hits for the win.

Katelyn McGough had two doubles, a triple and three runs and Britney Patrick had a double, two triples and four RBIs. Kamryn Adkins was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Jeorgi Ritzman added a double and two RBIs.

The PWV defense played error-free ball in the win.

Kalama scored in the top of the first, but PWV scored two runs in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead. The Titans scored five runs in each the fourth and fifth innings to finish things off.

“Katie threw a solid game. We’ve got a solid defense and we’re always going to hit,” PWV coach Ken Olson said. “Kalama is a much improved team from last year. We hit the ball hard, and they made some plays. If the ball went in the air for the most part, they were able to make the play.”

PWV (4-0, 4-0) travels to face Toutle Lake on Tuesday in a makeup C2BL game.
