Monday's 2B Girls Basketball: Morton-White Pass Claws Past Winlock

RANDLE — Morton-White Pass’ Hannah Smathers scored 14 points to lead the Timberwolves to a 42-25 win over Winlock in a Central 2B League girls basketball game here on Monday.

Smathers also grabbed 5 rebounds. Shaylee Peters scored 8 points and had a team-high 12 rebounds and Sierra Dotson added 12 points and 9 boards.

“That’s pretty much been true to form. I like that, that’s great,” MWP coach Tom Griffith said. “That’s pretty good production with those 3 girls. They work hard and do a good job.”

Winlock’s Cheleena Squibb led the Cardinals 12 points and 6 rebounds.

The Cardinals struggled shooting, converting just 6 of 49 field goal attempts and were outrebounded by MWP 41-21.

“We shot better than Winlock did and outrebounded Winlock and that was the difference in the game,” Griffith said. “(We were) sloppy. Too many fouls, too many turnovers, we’ve got to minimize our fouls. We’re going to pay for it when we play a better team.”

The Timberwolves led 21-12 at halftime and outscored the Cardinals 21-13 in the second half.

Morton-White Pass (9-6, 7-4) faces Pe Ell in Morton on Tuesday, while Winlock (2-13, 1-10) hosts Wahkiakum on Tuesday in a C2BL game.
