NAPAVINE — Adna took home two wins here Monday in a Central 2B League baseball twinbill with Napavine, knocking four home runs over the course of the 14-inning afternoon to win 9-4 and 7-3.
Adna won the opener, 9-4, despite trailing 3-1 after six innings of play.
“If you take away a couple innings, I thought we played pretty well, for our first doubleheader,” Napavine coach Brian Demarest said.
One of those tell-tale innings was the seventh frame of Game 1. Conner Weed and Matthew Scheuber both homered as Adna scored five runs with two outs, after a dropped fly ball kept the Pirates’ inning alive.
Camden Ryan started the seventh with a single and scored on a hit from Trevor Minkoff, who then scored on a double from Elmer Loose. Chance Fay singled and Sawyer Burdick reached on the error, setting the table for Weed’s three-run shot. Scheuber followed up with a solo homer.
“If we just make that play we’re down a run, and we’re in a pretty good spot in our lineup,” Demarest said. “But we couldn’t get it done.”
Loose and Fay both went 2 for 4 for Adna, with Weed finishing with four RBIs. Burdick worked six innings on the mound, striking out five and allowing two earned runs, and Weed came on in the ninth and needed just nine pitches to get three outs to end the game.
Garret Shannon hit a solo homer for Napavine. Ben Woodrum went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Landon Dahl was 2 for 3 and drove in a run.
Fay and Abel Ingle both homered for Adna to highlight the Pirates’ 7-3 win in Game 2, with Weed going 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.
Sawyer Burdick added a pair of hits for the winners, and Ryan started on the mound and struck out five in four innings. Weed, again, came on in relief, using 12 pitches to get the final three outs.
Adna scored four runs in the third inning, getting a solo homer from Fay, an RBI double from Weed, an RBI single from Ryan and an error to help things along.
“If we take those two innings out, I thought for a doubleheader we did pretty well,” Demarest said. “Overall, they’re just better than we are, and we were playing right with them. We’re just kind of killing ourselves a little bit.”
Levi Gates pitched three innings in relief for Napavine, striking out four with one hit and one walk, and went 2 for 4 at the plate with an RBI. Seth Butler went 2 for 2 and Tristan Ellison had a hit and drove in a pair of runs.
Napavine (4-7 overall) plays at Rainier on Saturday for a doubleheader. Adna (8-3, 7-1 league) hosts Pe Ell-Willapa Valley in a doubleheader on Saturday.
Onalaska Splits With Rainier
ONALASKA — Rainier won the first game 10-0, but Onalaska bounced back in the second game and won 9-8 to split a Central 2B League baseball doubleheader here on Monday.
Ashton Haight had two hits for the Loggers in Game 1, while Cole Christensen had two hits with a double and A.J. Volk added a double.
Game 2 was much more competitive. The Loggers scored three runs in the first and two in the second for a 5-0 lead, only to see Rainier claw back to within 5-4. Onalaska scored four runs in the fifth to cushion the lead back to 9-4, and Rainier wasn’t able to complete the comeback.
Mathew Kurzeika had two hits and two RBIs and Volk had a single and two RBIs. Ashton Haight recorded two hits and Tristen Lawrence had two hits and an RBI.
Onalaska (4-6, 3-5 league) is back on the diamond on Saturday, traveling to face Morton-White Pass for a C2BL doubleheader at noon in Randle.
Timberwolves, Titans Split Doubleheader
PE ELL — Pe Ell-Willapa Valley won the first game 10-0 in five innings, but Morton-White Pass battled back to win the second game, 12-10, to split a Central 2B League baseball doubleheader here Monday.
Cub Bair was effective for the Titans on the mound, allowing one hit while striking out five to get the shutout win in Game 1.
Kollin Jurek had a double and an RBI and Donnie Ward had a double, two runs and an RBI for the Titans.
Kaleb Rashoff worked four innings, allowed two hits and struck out seven for MWP in the opener.
The Titans led 8-7 in going into the seventh inning of Game 2, but Kade Gillispie doubled with the bases loaded to help MWP score five runs and take a 12-8 lead.
PWV had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but Ryon Ashley’s pop-up was ruled an infield fly and then a line-out ended the game.
“That’s the most animated I’ve ever been at an umpire. MWP didn’t give up, they played a great second game,” PWV coach Kelly Barnum said. “We didn’t close the game out when we needed to. They deserved to win that ballgame; we shouldn’t have been in that position.”
Rashoff had three hits including a double and an RBI and Gillispie added two hits with four RBIs. Tyler Birch added two hits and a run for MWP.
Frank Roonsburg had two doubles and two RBI for PWV, while Luke Gerow had three hits including a triple, and an RBI. Bair added a double and an RBI.
MWP (4-4, 4-4 league) hosts Onalaska on Saturday in a league doubleheader at noon in Randle, while PWV (5-5, 4-4 league) travels to La Center on Thursday for a nonleague game.
Toledo Sweeps Vikings
TOLEDO — The Indians pulled their Central 2B League baseball record to an even .500 with two wins over Mossyrock here Monday.
The Indians won the opener, 8-6, with Kaden Sellards going 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs and Hunter Eaton adding a hit and driving in two runs. Gannon Madill went 3 for 3 at the plate, and Cody Towns was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Ryan Bloomstrom started on the mound and worked 4 ⅔ innings, striking out four and walking one with four hits.
Brothers Evan and Justin Gootgeld each drove in two runs for Mossyrock, with Evan Gootgeld going 3 for 4 with a double. Aiden Weist added two hits with a double.
Cody Towns pitched Toledo to an 8-0 win in Game 2, throwing 6 ⅔ innings with 10 strikeouts and no walks. Jesse Towns came on in the seventh and got a ground-ball out to end the game.
The Indians had just two hits in Game 2, from Kyle Bauter and Hunter Eaton, but made the most of five walks and five Mossyrock errors to plate their eight runs.
Nick Fried and Evan Gootgeld each had two hits for Mossyrock in Game 2.
Toledo (4-6, 4-4 league) hosts Tenino in a nonleague game Thursday. Mossyrock (0-8, all league games) plays Wahkiakum on Saturday at Oregon State University’s Coleman Field.
Wahkiakum Dominates Winlock
CATHLAMET — Wahkiakum scored 47 runs in two games against Winlock to help the Mules sweep a Central 2B League baseball doubleheader here on Monday.
Wahkiakum won 17-0 in the first game. Winlock’s Anthony Clevenger and Tyler Bray each had a hit.
The second game was all Mules, 30-3, in five innings. Wahkiakum scored 24 runs in the second inning, including the first 13 batters crossing home plate in the inning.
Bray had a triple and Coleson Richendollar had the other hit for Winlock.
Winlock (0-9, 0-9) hosts Toutle Lake on Saturday in a C2BL doubleheader.
