Legion Baseball: Sobe-Toyota Sweeps Aberdeen

Chehalis won each game with a big final half-inning, sweeping Aberdeen 5-4 and 16-6 in junior American Legion baseball action Thursday afternoon at W.F. West High School.

Sobe-Toyota trailed 3-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning in the opener, but knotted the game with a two-run double from Tyson Guerrero. Aberdeen took the lead with a run in the top of the seventh, but a single from Tyler Pallas, an RBI double from Jacob Cleary and an RBI single by Austin Emery ended the game.

Kolby Steen finished with three hits. Guerrero had two, though Chehalis committed six errors in the contest.

“We were definitely a little bit lethargic early in the game,” Chehalis coach Bryan Bullock said. “We didn’t have a very good approach at the plate, and defensively we didn’t play catch. We threw the ball around a little bit.”

The second game was a bit less dramatic, coming to an end with Chehalis’ seven runs in the bottom of the sixth frame.

Brayden Bennett had four hits, and Guerrero added three for Sobe-Toyota. Again, however, Chehalis was hampered by five errors.

“We definitely swung the bats a lot better,” Bullock said. “It was nice to get going again, but defensively we started the game with three errors in the first inning, so we need to tighten up some defensive things.”

Chehalis (15-2) will play at Tenino at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
