Friday's 2B Track & Field: Locke, Justice, Munoz Each Win Two at District Championships

Napavine’s Conner Locke, Pe Ell’s Tyler Justice and Mossyrock’s Levi Munoz each won two events on Friday to highlight the local placers at the District 4 2B Track and Field Championships.

The top seven placers in each event, held at W.F. West’s Bearcat Stadium, qualified for the State 2B championships, which begin Thursday at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.

Locke, a senior and the defending state champion in the 100 meters, swept the sprints, winning the 100 in 11.06 seconds and taking the 200 in 23.5 seconds.

Justice, a senior, took first in both hurdle races, winning the 110s in 15.22 seconds and the 300s in 40.51. He also qualified for state in the 400, finishing fourth, and the triple jump, taking fifth..

Munoz won the long jump by nearly a foot at 20 feet, 6 inches, and won the triple jump by nearly 2 feet at 42-02.

Mossyrock’s Lucas and Sean Johnson finished 1-2 in the 400 (51.72 to 52.35), and teamed up with Munoz and Justin Gootgeld to win both the 4x100 relay (44.61) and the 4x200 (3:32.54). Gootgeld also qualified in the 300 hurdles, finishing sixth.

Toledo’s Joe Wallace won the high jump with a personal-record 6-02 leap, just 2 inches better than Onalaska’s John Wells, and Onalaska’s Zach Wright won the 3200 in 10:04.

Morton-White Pass’ Tristen Storey finished second in the 200 and third in the 100.



Adna’s Austen Apperson was second in the 1600 (4:27) and sixth in the 3200. Teammate Luke Wellander qualified in both hurdle races, taking third in the 110s and fifth in the 300s.

Napavine’s Draven Riddle qualified in the triple jump, taking third.

On the girls side, Napavine’s Mollie Olson and Adna’s Devanie Kleemeyer and Emma Manning each notched wins.

Olson won the triple jump by over a foot at 34-08.75, beating out Adna’s Kenya Lorton (33-07.5) for first, and also qualified in the long jump (seventh), the 100 hurdles (second, in 15.60) and the 300 hurdles (third).

Manning and teammates Isabella Elwood and Kleemeyer finished 1-2-3 in the high jump, each clearing the bar at 4-10, and Kleemeyer won the long jump at 16-05.5. Manning also qualified with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump, and Elwood also advanced in the javelin, taking third. Adna’s 4x100 relay team — Lorton, Manning, Kleemeyer and Cierra Swenson — took second to advance.

Mossyrock’s Maleah Nixon Klein qualified for state in the 100 (fourth) and the 200 (third), with teammate Stephanie Fried advancing in the 100 (fifth) and Sarah Lovan moving on in the 400 (fourth). Fried, Lovan, Nixon Klein and Makenzie Barrows teamed up to take fourth in the 4x100 and the 4x200. Ava Nelson (discus, fourth), Heather Edgar (shot put, sixth) and Jamie Carlson (javelin, fifth) also qualified for Mossyrock.

Adna’s Lauryn Apperson finished second in the 3200 at 13:00, and Toledo freshman Alyssa Gaskill advanced with a sixth-place finish in the 800. Napavine’s Chloe Stewart moved on with a third-place finish in the long jump.
