Posted

TOLEDO — Adna tried to make a comeback in the fourth quarter, but came up just short as Toledo earned a 37-31 win in a Central 2B League girls basketball game here on Friday night.

Ally Bacon, Anna Tauscher and Kal Schaplow each scored 8 points for the Indians. Adna’s Payton Aselton led all scorers with 15 points.

Toledo outscored Adna 9-7 in the first and second quarters for an 18-14 halftime lead. The Indians built a cushion in the third quarter, heading into the fourth up 26-18.

The Indians led by as much as 10 in the fourth quarter, but some defensive stops and Toledo turnovers kept Adna in the game. Alyssa Ewers scored a late layup after Toledo broke the full court press to put the Indians ahead for good.

“They played harder than us, I thought. Obviously, we had trouble with their press and we didn’t take care of the ball very well. We’re very fortunate to win this game,” Toledo coach Brian Layton said. “I’m happy to walk away with a win but we have a lot of things to work on. Give all the credit to Adna. They’re very well coached.”

Toledo (7-4, 5-2) hosts Pe Ell on Tuesday while Adna (5-6, 3-4) travels to Kalama on Tuesday for a league game.

Ony Holds Off Winlock

WINLOCK — A rough first quarter doomed Winlock here Friday night in a 49-33 loss to Onalaska in C2BL girls hoops action.

Abagail Bogar and Eryn Duryea each scored 12 to lead Onalaska with 12, which held an 11-3 advantage after a quarter.

“I thought for the most part we played pretty hard,” Winlock coach Tori Nelson said. “We had a hard time scoring in the first quarter, and we had a hard time defending Bogar in the first half. It seemed like she couldn't miss.”

Winlock, though, made a run in the second half, but foul trouble down the stretch slowed the Cards’ progress — as did a 2 for 16 performance at the foul line.

Makayla Allbritton led Winlock with 13 points, and Jenna Jones chipped in 8. Cheleena Squibb added 4 points and nine rebounds.

Winlock (1-9, 0-6 league) hosts Rainier on Tuesday.

Pe Ell was led by Annika Mason’s 7 points.

Mossyrock jumped out to an 11-2 lead after a quarter and expanded the advantage to 23-5 at halftime.

“We played really well. The first half, they weren’t very happy with how they were playing. We missed a lot of easy jumpers and lay-ins,” Mossyrock coach Autumn Moorcroft said. “Coming out at halftime, we jumped on them early. Shots started to fall, everybody got excited for each person.

Moorcroft said she was pleased with the aggressive play of Hadaller and Fried’s ability to help out the team while being in foul trouble.

“I got some JV players some minutes tonight,” she added. “They were all really excited for everyone out there.”
