Friday's State Tennis: Bearcats’ Cameron, Han Secure Top-Six Finish

SEATTLE — W.F. West’s top doubles team made sure its ticket to the big dance wasn’t for one day only.

Sydney Cameron and Jisu Han, the Bearcat duo, won both of their matches here Friday in the State 2A girls tennis championships at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.

Cameron and Han will play in the state semifinals on Saturday, and are guaranteed at least a sixth-place finish.

Cameron and Han beat Olympic’s Sydney Troy and Emry Bohlmann, 6-2, 6-0, in the first round, then topped Othello’s Macy Hampton and Julissa Cantu, 7-6, 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

They’ll face Sequim’s Jessica Dietzman and Kalli Walker in the semifinals. Tumwater’s Sophia Koelsch and Abby Bond face Sammamish’s Nina Vongsaly and Katrina Kuntz in the other semifinal.

In singles action, Centralia’s Carissa Kaut lost to Burlington-Edison’s Lyndsee Fleury, 6-4, 7-6, in the first round, then fell to Clarkston’s Kerington Tenwick, 6-1, 6-1.



In the 2A boys singles tournament, Centralia’s Ryan Mack lost to Bremerton’s Garrett Lawson in the first round, then lost a two-set loser-out consolation match to Quincy’s Louis Merred.

YAKIMA — In the 1B/2B/1A girls doubles tournament, Tenino’s Kaylee Schow and Ally Vestal play for fourth place on Saturday at the Yakima Tennis Club.

Schow and Vestal won their opener in two sets, 6-1, 6-2, defeating Cydni Lewis and Lydia Jurgens out of Newport. The Beaver pair then lost a quarterfinal match, 6-0, 6-2, to Aleah and Lauren Kert from Cashmere. Vestal and Schow then beat sisters Kelli and Kristin Bighorn, from Goldendale, in a consolation match, 6-3, 7-5.

Schow and Vestal play in the fourth-place match on Saturday against University Prep’s Audrey Anderson and Lindsey Walters.
