Friday's Prep Softball: Henderson, Loggers Rally Past Ocosta Late

ONALASKA — Amy Henderson came up big in the circle and at the plate here Friday afternoon, helping Onalaska pick up a 9-8 win over Ocosta in non-league softball action.

Henderson blanked the Wildcats — the No. 2 team in the Pacific 2B League — for the first three innings, and came up clutch at the dish with Onalaska down 8-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Henderson knocked a bases-loaded double, and with a few miscues from the Wildcats came around to score to highlight the five-run inning.

Adalle Sabin went 2 for 4 for the Loggers, who improved to 10-2 on the season with the win.

“They’re tough. Ocosta’s always a tough game,” Logger coach Rich Teitzel said. “They hit the ball well. Henderson placed her pitches well tonight and had some crucial defense late in the game to help her out.”

Alex Cleveland-Barrera and Ashley Pannkuk both played well defensively, Teitzel added.

Onalaska (10-2, 9-0 Central 2B League) hosts Adna on Monday for a doubleheader featuring the only two teams with flawless C2BL records.

Winlock Cruises Past Lake Quinault

WINLOCK — The Cardinals scored nine runs in two separate innings to earn a 21-5 win over Lake Quinault in a non-league softball game here on Friday.

Karlie Jones threw four innings in the circle, allowing no hits, one run and two walks with five strikeouts.

At the plate, Jones had a double, two runs and three RBI and Raychel Squibb was 2-for-3 with a run, two RBI and a walk.

Addison Hall was 2-for-2 with a double, three runs, two RBI and two walks and Madison Lofberg and Abigail Adams each scored three runs.

Winlock scored nine runs in the first inning and brought home three more runs in the third for a 12-5 lead. The Cardinals tallied nine runs in the fourth to end the game early.

Winlock (8-4, 5-4) hosts Wahkiakum on Monday in a Central 2B League doubleheader.

Centralia Fends Off Aberdeen

ABERDEEN — Centralia used a three run fourth inning to propel themselves into the lead and never looked back, earning a 7-5 win over Aberdeen in an Evergreen 2A Conference softball game here on Friday.

Centralia’s McKenzie Ulrich pitched all seven innings, allowing six hits, four earned runs and three walks while striking out five batters.

At the plate, freshman Liza Hubbard was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Ella Orr was 3-for-4 with a double, a run and three RBI and Courtney Spriggs was 2-for-4 with a run and a RBI.

Aberdeen opened the game with two runs in the first but the Tigers tied the game in the third with two runs. Centralia plated three runs in the fourth to gain the lead. The Tigers and Bobcats each scored two runs in the seventh.

Centralia coach David Orr was impressed with the play of centerfielder Jadyn Hawley, noting she played “lights out” against the Bobcats.

“I haven’t seen anybody play centerfield like that, balls went out there to die,” Orr said. “She made some phenomenal plays and saved the game for us.”

Centralia travels to Tumwater to take on Black Hills on Tuesday in a league game.
