FRIDAY HARBOR — Jake Cournyer scored 22 points to lead Toledo to a 68-42 win against Lopez in the Friday Harbor Tip-Off Classic here on Friday.
Cournyer, a freshman, started in place of the injured Carlo Arceo-Hansen, and he made his time on the floor count, including knocking down four 3’s and scoring 14 points in the first quarter.
“Jake started at point guard, had the game of his life. At the end of the first quarter, he hit half court 3 to seal it,” Toledo coach Grady Fallon said. “All the kids were behind him, it was cool.”
Duke Schaplow tallied 16 points and Ryan Bloomstrom added 12 points for the Indians.
Reese Hamilton led the Lobos with 18 points and Lichen Johnson added 15 points.
Toledo jumped out to a 23-7 lead after one quarter and was able to cruise the rest of the way for the win.

Toledo (1-0) takes on Vashon Island at 3:45 p.m. in the championship game of the Tip-Off Classic Tournament on Saturday.
River Ridge Takes Down Centralia
The Tigers had a much better showing than their first game but it wasn’t enough as River Ridge won 71-60 in a non-league boys basketball game in Centralia on Friday.
Matt House scored 18 points and four assists to lead Centralia. Landon Kaut scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Benito Valencia also had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Tyler No led River Ridge with 23 points.
River Ridge led 20-14 after one quarter and built the lead to 39-28 at halftime. Centralia played better in the second half but couldn’t quite catch up.
“We played much better than the first game, a lot more passion and intensity. We flew around the court pretty well tonight. We brought a different intensity tonight. Offensively, River Ridge did a half court trap on us,” Centralia coach Kyle Donahue said. “We got guys in the right spot but had a hard time making the right pass at the right time. We responded well to it but a little bit of inexperience showed in that situation. I thought we played better as a team tonight and when we got the ball inside, our big guys did well.”
Tyler Beairsto added four assists and Donahue applauded the play of Kaut, not making mistakes and doing what the team needed him to do.
Centralia (0-2) hosts North Thurston on Monday.
