Friday's Prep Baseball: Toutle Lake Cruises Past Pe Ell-Willapa Valley

TOUTLE — Pe Ell-Willapa Valley didn’t play well against Toutle Lake here on Friday, falling to the Ducks 10-0 in a Central 2B League baseball game.

Max Smith had one of four hits for the Titans in the game, and PWV coach Kelly Barnum noted he had some good at-bats and made several quality defensive plays at third base.

Cub Bair started the game and pitched just more than an inning before being replaced by Hunter Hoke, who allowed four hits, one earned run with two strikeouts.

“I don’t think the kids expected to play at all. It was pouring and snowing and everything else in Pe Ell, we got the call at 12:30 the game was still on, we were like what?,” Barnum said. “We didn’t get off the bus ready to play baseball, Toutle kids knew they were going to play. The story was one team that was prepared to play and the other was, yeah sure, we’ll go. It was disgusting.”

Toutle Lake scored four runs in the first, and added two runs in each the second, third and fifth innings to end the game with the mercy rule.

PWV (2-3, 2-2) is scheduled to host Naselle on Saturday before resuming league play on Monday, hosting Kalama.
