VANCOUVER — Centralia’s Ryan Mack won the singles tournament at the District 4 2A Boys Tennis tournament at Club Green Meadows here on Friday.
Mack won the title over Tumwater’s Ethan Dillon in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, after losing to Dillon in the sub district finals last week.
“Ryan played a smart, consistent and patiently aggressive game,” Centralia assistant coach Deb Keahey said.
Centralia placed second as a team with 12 points. Columbia River won the team title with 23 points.
Mack started the tournament on Thursday against Ridgefield’s Jonah Kropp, winning with set scores of 6-1, 6-1. Mack defeated teammate Ben Corwin in the semifinals without dropping a game, 6-0, 6-0 to make it to the finals against Dillon.
Corwin won his opening match against Ridgefield’s Derek Kropp in three sets 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 before falling to Mack.
Corwin lost in his next match against Columbia River’s Matt Rudi 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 to end his season.
In doubles, Centralia’s Johan Lopez and Landon Kaut lost in the opening match to Ben Haukaas and Gabe Slind of Mark Morris, 6-1, 6-0. The duo then ran into W.F. West’s Colin Slattery and Caleb Walters, falling to the Bearcat team, 6-4, 0-6, 6-2 to end the season for Lopez and Kaut.
Slattery and Walters started the tournament on Thursday against Ethan Chung and Brady Anderson of R.A. Long, losing with set scores of 6-1, 6-0. After their win against the Centralia duo, Max Firstenburg and Alex Miller of Columbia River, losing 6-2, 6-1 to end their season.
On the other side of the doubles bracket, Cade Cameron and Joseph Chung faced Firstenburg and Miller from Columbia River to begin the tournament on Thursday, falling with set scores of 6-3, 6-2. Chung and Cameron stayed alive with a win over Johnson and Fields of Tumwater, winning 7-5, 6-3.
On Friday, Chung and Cameron saw their season come to an end against R.A. Long’s Chung and Anderson, falling with set scores of 6-3, 6-2.
Mack will play in the State 2A Boys Tennis tournament at the Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle in May.
