Friday's Boys Tennis: Bearcats Earn Win in Season Finale Against Aberdeen

W.F. West lost just one doubles match en route to a 5-1 win against Aberdeen in an Evergreen 2A Conference boys tennis match Friday in Chehalis.

In singles, Luke Walters earned the win for the Bearcats in the top match against Bryce Kola, 6-3, 6-0. Gabe Cuestas defeated Aberdeen’s Ashdon Swope in the No. 2 spot, 6-3, 6-1, and Andrew Boggess completed the sweep for the Bearcats in the No. 3 match with a win against Carter Downs, 6-1, 6-3.

“The singles kids all played well today. Luke (Walters) did a really nice job,” W.F. West coach Jack State said. “Gabe (Cuestas) played a really good match at No. 2 and Andrew (Boggess) did a good job at No. 3. I was really happy with the way they played.”

In doubles, W.F. West’s Joseph Chung and Cade Cameron won in the top doubles match against Colton Faulkner and Romeo Sanchez, 6-2, 6-3. Collin Slattery and Caleb Walters won for the Bearcats in the No. 2 spot against Colby Miller and Andrew Troeh, 6-3, 6-2. Aberdeen was able to fend off a shutout with a win in the No. 3 match, as Carter Olsen and Kobie Fall defeated Jacob Moeckel and Theo Holmes, 7-5, 6-2.



“Caleb (Walters) had a little bit of a shaky start in the first couple games of the first set, but really played well after that,” State said. “Joseph Chung and Cade Cameron played pretty well.”

The Bearcats finished the regular season 10-2 overall and 7-1 in EvCo matches, earning the co-league title with Tumwater.

W.F. West competed in the 2A sub-district tournament on Monday in Centralia.
