FRIDAY HARBOR — Toledo shot 45 percent from the field and led by 13 points after one quarter to allow the Indians to cruise to 58-39 win in a non-league boys basketball game here on Friday.

The Indians were led by Andreas Malunat with 13 points. Brian Wood and Hayden Farbo each added 11 points.

Toledo forced 20 Friday Harbor turnovers in the win.

“Our defense was solid. Holding them to under 40 is our goal. Regardless of our offense, we have a chance to win most games,” Toledo coach Grady Fallon said.

Toledo (1-0) faces Vashon Island at 3 p.m. on Saturday in the championship of the Tipoff Classic at Friday Harbor.

Morton-White Pass Claws Past Rochester

ROCHESTER — Kaleb Rashoff scored 17 points to lead Morton-White Pass to an opening game 52-44 win over Rochester in a non-league boys basketball game here on Friday.

Dylan Richards and Hayden Young each scored 10 points. Richards led the team with eight rebounds and Young also grabbed six boards.

The T-Wolves dished out 13 assists as a team.

“Certainly had our first game issues, but overall, it was a good team win,” MWP coach Chad Cramer said. “We’re still 10-deep in our bench. It was solid there to go to our bench and still be productive.”

Rochester’s Keegan Goldrick had a team-high 19 points and Bryce Lollar added 10 points. Enrique Sanchez had seven rebounds in the loss.

Rochester led 13-7 after one quarter, but Morton-White Pass dominated the second quarter with 20 points to gain a 27-18 lead at intermission.

Rochester had the slight edge in second half scoring, 26-25, which wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.

“We’re not shooting the ball well yet. We’re getting plenty of shots up but only cashing in on 28 percent, we’ve got to shoot a little better,” Rochester coach Mark Goldrick said. “We played a bit better but not good enough yet.”

MWP (1-0) hosts La Center on Tuesday in a non-league game while Rochester (0-2) hosts Montesano on Wednesday in a non-league game.

Warriors Take Down Trojans

PE ELL — Pe Ell had eight players on the scoresheet tonight, but it wasn’t enough as Chief Leschi won 64-47 in a Pacific 2B League boys basketball game here on Friday.

Jeremiah Yost led the Trojans with nine points and Max Smith had eight points and six steals.

Chief Leschi’s Darnelle Lewis led all scorers with 27 points and Kahea Baker added 22 points.

The Warriors shot 43 percent from the field while Pe Ell shot just 23 percent.

“At times, we played pretty well against a pretty dang good team. It was just the same struggle, we can’t finish our shots,” Pe Ell coach Chris Fitzgerald said. “I can’t fault their effort, they’re playing their guts out but they’re not finishing. Hopefully it will snap into place. One of them will start doing it and it will be contagious.”

Chief Leschi jumped out to a 15-7 lead after one quarter and never looked back, scoring 22 points in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

“I thought our kids held their composure very well. We’ve come a long ways in that respect,” Fitzgerald said. “They’re fun to watch.”

Pe Ell (0-2) hits the road to face Life Christian on Wednesday in a P2BL game.
