Friday's 2B Football: Onalaska Squeaks Past Wahkiakum

CATHLAMET — Onalaska rushed for 415 yards and held off the Mules down the stretch to earn a 32-27 win in a SWW 2B non-divisional football game here on Friday.

Ashton Haight lead the way on the ground with 229 yards on 32 carries and a touchdown. Hazen Inman added 80 yards on eight carries and a score and quarterback Lucas Kreger recorded 74 yards on four rushes and a TD. Cade Lawrence added 32 yards on nine carries and a two touchdowns for the Loggers.

Onalaska’s defense held strong in the end, including two interceptions by Kyle Hamilton to preserve the lead.

“I thought it was a good early season test for us. I think we learned a lot from tonight’s game,” Onalaska coach Mazen Saade said. “At the end of the day, they came out with a W. They kept digging. We need to go back to work and shore some things up. It was a good win tonight, I’m proud of our kids. We can learn and grow from this.”

Kreger started off the scoring with a 62-yard run for a score and it was followed up with a 4-yard scamper to the end zone by Lawrence.

Wahkiakum got on the board with a 18-yard TD pass from Lucas Brown to Chance Cothren. Lawrence scored his second of the night on a 7-yard run. Brown completed his second touchdown throw of the game on an 18-yard pass to KC Beery to cut the Ony lead to 18-14 at halftime.

The Mules gained the lead in the third quarter on a 9-yard run by James Anderson. The Loggers responded with an Ashton Haight 8-yard run.

With the offense’s back against the wall, the Logger offense drove 95-yards, capped off by an Inman 14-yard run into the end zone to pad the lead.

The Mules cut the lead to one score with a 1-yard run by Brown, but the Loggers were able to run out the rest of the clock for the win.

Onalaska (3-0) hosts Pe Ell-Willapa Valley next Friday in a non-divisional SWW 2B football game.

Pe Ell-Willapa Valley Edges Raymond

RAYMOND — Pe Ell-Willapa Valley’s Sam Western intercepted a Raymond pass on the final play of the game to preserve a 28-24 Titan victory in a SWW 2B Coastal Division football game here on Friday night.

The Titans were balanced with 149 yards rushing and 145 yards passing. Max Smith had 20 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown and Peter Hamilton added 74 yards on 12 carries and a score.

Freshman quarterback Logan Walker was 5-13 passing for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Sam Western caught one pass for 46 yards and Hamilton had a catch for 42 yards.

“I think we did good. With just how many back-and-forth and ups and downs there were, they kept their heads up and played to the last second,” PWV coach Josh Fluke said. “It wasn’t our best game. We had a lot of turnovers, props to Raymond, they have a good football team.”

The Titans struck first with a 42-yard TD pass from Walker to Hamilton. McCartney Maden started the second quarter off with a 59-yard touchdown, but the Titans answered with a 15-yard pass from Walker to Smith to regain the lead. Just before halftime, Maden ran 54-yards to the house for a 14-12 Raymond lead at intermission.

Jose Delgado increased the Raymond lead early in the third quarter with a 38-yard field goal. PWV regained the lead with a 1-yard TD run by Smith.

The Seagulls responded in the fourth quarter with a 10-yard run to the end zone by Joseph Villalpando. On their next possession, the Titans drove down the field and scored on a 35-yard run by Hamilton.

With PWV trying to run out the clock, Hamilton fumbled the ball back to Raymond for one last chance to win the game, but Western’s interception sealed the win for the Titans.

PWV (2-1, 1-0) travels to Onalaska next Friday to face the Loggers in a SWW 2B non-divisional football contest.



Tigers Come From Behind to Defeat Indians

TOLEDO — Toledo roared out to a 10-0 lead, but Napavine answered with 20 points in the second half to earn a 20-17 win in a Southwest Washington 2B non-divisional football game here on Friday.

Napavine’s Dawson Stanley lead the way on the ground and through the air, rushing for 107 yards on 21 carries and a score. He completed 12 of 22 passes for 113 yards and one touchdown.

Toledo’s Ethan Buck ran for 43 yards on 17 carries. Bryce Marcil was 5 of 14 passing for 106 yards and a touchdown.

It was a scoreless first quarter and scoreless in the second until a 14-yard pass from Marcil to Buck for a 7-0 lead. Andreas Malunat kicked a 32-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead at halftime.

Napavine got on the board in the third quarter with a 14-yard run by Laythan Demarest. The Indians answered with a 1-yard TD run by Colbey Cherrington.

Napavine scored the final 14 points of the game. Stanley threw a 50-yard touchdown strike to Ben Woodrum to cut the lead to 17-12. Stanley gave the Tigers the lead in the fourth quarter with a 2-yard touchdown run, and the Tiger defense held on down the stretch for the win.

“I think we responded well after our loss to Rainier. We focused on fundamentals this week, and coming out hard with intensity and we did that,” Toledo coach Mike Christensen said. “We’ve improved over our first three games which is all we can ask for.”

Napavine (2-1) hosts Wahkiakum next Friday in a SWW 2B non-divisional football game while Toledo (1-2) hosts Adna next Friday in a non-divisional contest.

Note: Napavine will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its 2008 state championship team on Friday night during halftime of the Tigers’ home game against Wahkiakum.

T-Wolves Bite Toutle Lake

TOUTLE – Morton-White Pass jumped out to a 20-0 lead here Friday night in the first half on their way to a 34-0 victory over Toutle Lake in non-league 2B football action.

Dylan Hamre rushed for a game-high 153 yards and two touchdowns to power the Timberwolves to victory. Gavyn Higdon, Jesse Urban and Kaleb Rshoff also ran in scores for MWP on the night and MWP outgained their opponents on offense with 382 yards compared to just 72 yards.

Hamre found the end zone first with a six yard run in the first quarter and then backed that up with a 2-yard scoring rush in the second quarter. Higdon scored from 5 yards out later in the second quarter.

In the third quarter Jesse Urban scored from 2-yards out and then Hamre punched in the 2-point run. Finally, Kaleb Rashoff capped off the T-Wolves scoring with a 2-yard run of his own in the fourth frame.

Despite the lopsided shutout MWP coach Lee Metcalf was reserved in his praise.

“Even when we are really good we struggle there at Toutle. It’s one of those places where we just don’t have our best games,” said Metcalf. “I’ll take it obviously. But I think it could have been better. We’re getting ready for Mountain Division play and that’s our main focus.”

MWP (3-0) will play at Winlock on Friday.
