Friday's 2B Football: Napavine Tops Rainier to Seal Second

NAPAVINE — Dawson Stanley passed for 244 yards and three touchdowns here Friday night to lead Napavine to a 48-27 win over Rainier in SWW 2B League Mountain Division football action.

The win means the Tigers (7-2, 4-1 league) finish second in the Mountain Division and will host Ilwaco on Thursday night in a winner-to-state crossover game.

Napavine built a 41-0 lead in the first half, with Stanley throwing touchdown passes to Jared McCollum (78 yards), Tristen Ellison (40 yards) and Ben Woodrum (9 yards).

McCollum added a 3-yard touchdown run, Tanner Low ran in a touchdown and Lathan Demarest ran in a score from 51 yards out. Demarest added a 55-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, finishing with two carries for 106 yards and three catches for 51 yards.

“I’m happy with our performance,” Tiger coach Josh Fay said. “I can’t ask for much more than that. … We got to play everybody on senior night, and it was a fun night to send those seniors off.”

Rainier got three touchdowns from Michael Green in the second half, with a 72-yard kickoff return, an 86-yard run and a 20-yard pass to Carson Edminster.

Green finished with 10 carries for 119 yards for the Mountaineers, who wrap the regular season with a 5-4 record.

PWV Wins Coastal Division Crown

PE ELL — The Titans didn’t leave anything to doubt here Friday night, thumping Ilwaco 42-0 in a game to decide the SWW 2B League Coastal Division championship.

Max Smith ran 21 times for 158 yards and three touchdowns, and Pe Ell-Willapa Valley piled up 374 yards of offense in the win.

“He’s a heck of a football player,” PWV coach Josh Fluke said of his star running back. “Once again he stepped up, and played both sides of the ball.”

The Titans led 30-0 at halftime, thanks to two rushing touchdowns from Smith (60 and 2 yards), a safety, and touchdown passes from Logan Walker to Wyatt Bush and Carson Cox.

“Everyone played one heck of a game,” Fluke said, noting that his team is down five starters due to injures. “The other young kids have stepped up, and they’re just doing a heck of a job.”

Walker finished 7 of 13 passing for 67 yards, and Bush caught three passes for 20 yards.

Cox and Smith both added rushing touchdowns in the second half.

Andrew Mitton, Kiyah Carter and Jeremiah Yost all played well defensively for the Titans, Fluke pointed out.

The win means PWV avoids a coin toss to settle a three-way tie for first in the Coastal Division, and wins a third-straight division title outright.

“They were up to the occasion,” Fluke said. “We didn’t want a coin toss to decide our fate, so it was perfect.”

The Titans (7-2, 5-0 division) will host Winlock on Thursday night in Menlo in a winner-to-state crossover game.

Toledo Hammers Mossyrock to Wrap Regular Season

MOSSYROCK — The Indians built a 42-0 lead by halftime and rolled here Friday night, crushing Mossyrock 61-6 in SWW 2B League River Division action to finish out the regular season.

Coleby Cherrington ran the ball four times for 67 yards and added a 4-yard touchdown run, a 60-yard punt-return touchdown and an 81-yard kickoff return touchdown to lead the way for Toledo.

“He had a big game,” Toledo coach Mike Christensen said, noting Cherrington accounted for over 350 all-purpose yards. “I feel like he had a breakout game and we hope he can continue that.”

Cherrington’s punt return opened the scoring. Quarterback Bryce Marcil hit Fano Arceo-Hansen for a 42-yard touchdown, and Duke Schaplow added a 4-yard touchdown run that put Toledo up 21-0 after a quarter.

Ethan Buck added a 4-yard run, Cherrington scored his rushing touchdown, and Marcil his Lex Nef for a touchdown in the second quarter to build the 42-0 lead and make the clock run throughout the second half.



Marcil completed 4 of 5 passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Buck ran five times for 46 yards, and the Indians picked up 402 yards of total offense.

“We wanted to come out and play like we did tonight,” Christensen said. “We’ve got our work cut out for us on Thursday, but we’re going to be putting our work in this week and hopefully we can give them a good fight.”

Nick Fried ran 20 times for 59 yards to lead Mossyrock, and caught a touchdown pass from Evan Gootgeld in the third quarter.

Viking coach Chris Fried called Toledo a classy program.

“(We) played hard the whole game. We were just outmanned,” Fried said.

The win secured second place in the River Division for Toledo (5-4, 4-1 division). The Indians will host Onalaska (6-2) in a crossover game on Thursday night, with the winner advancing to the state playoffs and the loser entering a tiebreaker next Saturday in Centralia.

Mossyrock (2-7, 0-5 league) plays a nonleague game at Tenino on Friday.

Mules Drop Winlock for Third

WINLOCK — Luke Brown accounted for four touchdowns, and Wahkiakum pulled away from Winlock late here Friday for a 41-22 win that secured third place in the SWW 2B League River Division.

Brown, the Mules’ quarterback, ran 13 times for 79 yards and hit all four of his pass attempts for 95 yards.

Winlock, however, was within striking range through three quarters and trailed just 26-22 heading into the fourth frame.

Bryce Cline ran 16 times for 88 yards to lead the Cardinals, and Nolan Swofford ran 16 times for 87 yards.

The Mules led 14-0 in the second quarter, thanks to two touchdown runs from Quentin Nelson, before Cline got the Cardinals on the board with a 5-yard run. Swofford scored on a run in the third frame and Cline hit Anthony Clevenger for a touchdown that cut it to 26-22, but Brown ran in a pair of touchdowns in the fourth frame to put things away.

The Mules tallied 411 yards of offense in the win.

Winlock (3-6, 2-3 league) finishes fourth in the River Division and will play a crossover game against Pe Ell-Willapa Valley in Menlo on Thursday. Wahkiakum (4-5, 3-2 league) plays a crossover at Raymond on Thursday. The losers of both games move on to a tiebreaker on Saturday in Centralia.

Pirates Drop MWP to Finish Regular Season Undefeated

RANDLE — The top-ranked Pirates looked the part here Friday night, thumping Morton-White Pass 56-0 in SWW 2B League Mountain Division football action to finish the regular season undefeated.

Adna (9-0) had sealed the Mountain Division title a week earlier, and will now host Ocosta on Thursday night in a winner-to-state District 4 crossover game.

The Pirates led 36-0 after a quarter, thanks to two touchdown runs from Cole Fay (19 and 20 yards), a scoring run from Chance Fay (6 yards), a 50-yard punt return touchdown by Brady Collins and a 42-yard touchdown run from Elmer Loose.

Collins added a 75-yard punt return score in the second quarter. Quarterback Braden Thomas hit Ryan Young for a 25-yard touchdown, and Mitchell Maynard added a 16-yard scoring run that put the Pirates up 56-0 at halftime.

Cole Fay finished with 85 rushing yards on three carries, and Thomas hit 3 of 4 passes for 51 yards.

“We didn’t play well, and they beat us in all three phases,” MWP coach Lee Metcalf said. “We really didn’t have an answer. We ran into a buzzsaw, and couldn’t get anything established offensively.”

The Timberwolves were held to 33 yards of offense in the loss.

Morton-White Pass (6-3, 2-3 league) play a winner-to-state crossover game at defending State 2B champion Kalama on Thursday.
