Friday's 2A Football: Warriors Fall to Eagles

ELMA — Elma racked up 368 yards on the ground to sprint past Rochester 41-12 in a non-league football game here Friday night.

Rochester’s Grayson Johnson lead the way with 50 yards on 14 carries. Daniel May was 2 of 4 passing for 24 yards and a touchdown. Tristen Johnson caught three passes for 14 yards and a touchdown for the Warriors.

Eagle running back Taitum Brumfield ran 22 times for 130 yards and three touchdowns, while quarterback Cody Vollan ran 12 times for 109 yards and two scores and added a 52-yard touchdown pass.

Rochester used an 86-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown to cut the lead to 14-6 in the first quarter.

The Warriors scored again with a 5-yard pass from May to Tristen Johnson to cut the Elma lead to 27-12 at halftime, but the Eagles added 21 in the second half to secure the win.

Rochester (1-1) hits the road Friday to face Bremerton in a non-league game.

Evergreen Comes From Behind to Defeat Centralia

VANCOUVER — Centralia held the lead against Evergreen in a non-league football game here on Friday, but turnovers cost the Tigers as Evergreen won 47-22.

Centralia was solid until the offense hit a rut and ended possessions with an interception and three straight fumbles, which let Evergreen blow the game open.

“I think they played great,” Centralia coach Jeremy Thibault said, before explaining the turnover situations. “The defense flew around and hit people. We had one fumble on special teams. Take those away and we’re in this game.”

Shiloh Gundo was the leading rusher with 79 yards on 17 carries. Colby Sobolesky added 61 yards on 12 carries for the Tigers.

Tanner DeMonbrun was 6 of 14 passing for 95 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Cameron Erickson was 2 of 4 passing for 23 yards and a touchdown. Benito Valencia caught four passes for 50 yards and two scores and Blaine Wass caught four passes for 68 yards.

Evergreen’s Eli Vaa-Leiataua was the leading rusher with 130 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown. Quarterback Ryan Blazie was 8 of 15 for 152 yards and two scores.

Gundo started the scoring with an 8-yard run, but Evergreen led 13-6 at halftime.



DeMonbrun hit Valencia with an 11-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and Erickson hit Valencia for a 7-yard score in the fourth.

“I thought our kids played hard. We had no injuries and the kids had no quit in them,” Thibault said. “The kids played well. Evergreen is a big school. We don’t have a lot of guys and they all played really hard.”

Centralia (0-2) hosts Sehome Friday in a non-league game.

Cougars Maul Bearcats

OLYMPIA — W.F. West couldn’t get much going on offense and Capital tallied 413 yards of offense to earn a 29-9 win in a non-league football game here on Friday.

W.F. West totaled 206 yards of offense, including 92 yards rushing.

Lafe Johnson lead the way with 52 yards on 20 carries.

Josiah Johnson was 10 of 21 passing for 106 yards and added a rushing touchdown. Leandre Gaines tallied four catches for 38 yards and Troy Yarter caught two passes for 42 yards.

“We shot ourselves in the foot a lot tonight. A lot of blocking mistakes,” W.F. West coach Dan Hill said. “We had the opportunity to put the ball in the end zone and couldn’t finish drives off.”

For Capital, Clayton Grady ran for 143 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown. Quarterback Grant Erickson was 8 of 13 passing for 97 yards and threw two touchdown passes.

“Our defense was on the field quite a bit. They played well. They kept us in the ballgame,” Hill said. “I’m proud of the way our defense played.”

Capital scored first on a 6-yard pass from Erickson to Carson Collard. That same duo hooked up for another score in the second quarter and a 15-0 lead. W.F. West scored before halftime on a Bryce Laufenberg 19-yard field goal.

The Cougars struck first in the second half with a 16-yard touchdown run by Eric Jackson. Josiah Johnson ran into the end zone from a yard out to cut the Capital lead to 22-9. The Cougars put the game away with a final tally on a 4-yard touchdown run by Clayton Grady.

W.F. West (1-1) hosts Hudson’s Bay on Friday in a non-league game.
