College Baseball/Softball: Tacoma Sweeps Blazers in Weekend Series

Centralia went winless against Tacoma over the weekend, losing 13-1 and 4-2 on Saturday at Minnitti Field and falling 4-0 and 10-4 at Ed Wheeler Field on Sunday.

The losses drop the Blazers to 3-10 in NWAC West Region play, with another weekend series starting Saturday in Centralia with Grays Harbor visiting.

The Titans won a seven-inning opener, 13-1, on Saturday, scoring four runs in the first inning and leading 10-0 after five frames. Gabe Farrer went 1 for 2 and drove in the Blazers’ only run, while Robbie Wall added a double.

Logan Gerling struck out nine over six innings to get the win for Tacoma, and W.F. West graduate Elijah Johnson was 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI. The Titans drew 11 walks and struck out only twice.

The Blazers came close in the nightcap, but managed just four hits in a 4-2 loss. Taylor Mondina went 2 for 4 with a two-run homer in the first inning, but Centralia wouldn’t score again.

Tacoma scored all four of its runs in the fifth inning on a double from Dillon O’Grady, an RBI ground-out by Dominick Zombik, and a three-run double by Collin Wolf.

On Sunday, the Titans opened the twinbill with three runs in the first inning of Game 1 and Ben Langehough and Nate Packard combined to throw a shutout, giving up two hits each with one total walk. Drew Forgione and Gabe Farrer were each 1 for 3 with a double for Centralia

Johnson went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for Tacoma in Sunday’s late game, which the Titans won 10-4.

College Softball

Trailblazers Sweep Grays Harbor

Centralia blew past Grays Harbor twice on Saturday, dropping the Chokers 12-1 and 13-2 in NWAC South Region action at Fort Borst Park.

Dakota Brooks led the way in Game 1, going 2 for 3 with a home run, a double and four RBIs and pitching four innings without giving up a run to get the win.

Jayden Benson went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs and Makayla Deffenbaugh was 3 for 3 with an RBI.

Centralia scored 10 runs in the first inning of Game 2 and cruised from there. Brooks went 2 for 2 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, Britzy Hockett was 1 for 1 with two RBIs, Benson went 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs, and Deffenbaugh doubled and drove in two runs.

Brooks pitched all five innings, striking out three and walking one with three hits and two earned runs.

Centralia (17-12, 11-5 South Region) plays at Chemeketa on Saturday.
