CC Wrap: Blazer Men Fall; Lady Blazers Top Highline

Highline scored 48 points in the second half to overcome a slow start and beat Centralia 72-62 on Saturday in NWAC West Region men's basketball action at Michael Smith Gymnasium.

The visiting Thunderbirds shot 14 of 27 from the field, and 16 of 22 from the foul stripe, in the second half to seal the win.

Brayton Keith led Centralia with 15 points, and Josiah Warner and Justin Fjeld each added 14. Joshua Broughton pitched in with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Centralia, though, turned the ball over 18 times, and saw its 8-point halftime lead evaporate in the second half.

Jamie Orme led Highline with 23 points, going 6 of 10 from long range.

The Blazers shot 1 of 9 from behind the arc in the second half.

Centralia (2-17, 2-6 league) will play at Pierce on Wednesday.



Kenney Leads Blazers Past Highline

Susan Kenney had a hot shooting night, and Centralia built a big early lead to hold off Highline, 70-54, on Saturday in NWAC West Region women's basketball action in the Hub City.

Kenney scored 25 points and went 5 of 9 from long range, with four assists and five steals for the Lady Blazers.

Centralia led 43-28 at halftime, and took advantage of 28 Thunderbird turnovers in the win.

Tiana Thompson added 13 points for Centralia. Monty Cooper came off the bench to score 11 with eight rebounds, and Alisha Sorenson scored 12 with six boards.

Jasmyne Holmes led Highline with 19 points.

Centralia (16-7, 7-1 league) will play at Pierce on Wednesday.
