CC Women: Lady Blazers Bounce Back, Burn Gators

Posted

The Lady Blazers may have been smarting a bit from their first league loss of the season — and managed to take it out on Green River Wednesday night.

Centralia ran out to a 33-8 lead after a quarter and cruised in a 78-52 win at Michael Smith Gymnasium, giving the Blazers a 5-1 lead in NWAC West Region women’s basketball play.

Alisha Sorensen scored 27 points on 10 of 17 shooting, Sydnie Cole-Vogler added 13 and Susan Kenney scored 10 points with 11 assists and six rebounds.

Tiana Thompson added 11 points and 13 boards for the Blazers.

The Blazers kept their foot on the gas into the second half, stretching the lead to 39 points at 67-28 in the third, and fired up 37 attempts from long range — hitting 13 — in the win. Sorenson alone was 7 of 13 from the 3-point line.

Katie Whitten added 8 points, four rebounds and four assists for Centralia, which lost to rival Lower Columbia on Saturday, 65-58, in a matchup of the top two teams in the West Region. The Blazers (14-7, 5-1 league) play at Grays Harbor on Saturday with a noon tipoff.
