CC Women: Blazers Blast Blue Mountain

Centralia came out firing and never slowed down on Saturday, drubbing Blue Mountain 74-44 on the first day of action in the Blazer Classic women’s basketball tournament in the Hub City.

Kylie Smith led the way with 24 points for the Lady Blazers, going 10 of 15 from the floor with nine rebounds, five steals and three blocked shots.

Kayla Howard added 16 points, Courtney Kemble scored 12 points, and Joni Lancaster scored 12 on 4 of 6 shooting with seven assists.

The host Blazers led 20-4 after a first quarter in which Blue Mountain turned the ball over eight times, and stretched the lead to 20 points at halftime.

Centralia (4-2) hosts Walla Walla on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Centralia Crossover tournament, and hosts Peninsula on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Note: Tacoma was originally scheduled to play in the Blazer Classic but dropped out on Saturday morning. Centralia College fielded an impromptu alumni team to play Olympic on Saturday, with Olympic winning 69-67. Donneshia Weber scored 17 for the Blazer alums, while Autumn Durand — a CC volleyball player and former star at Southern Oregon University — scored 17 with seven rebounds for the alums.



LCC Goes 2-0 at Everett Classic

EVERETT — Kenya Lorton scored 32 points on Saturday to help Lower Columbia beat SW Oregon, 85-75, in the Everett Classic Tournament.

Lorton, a freshman from Adna, went 8 of 14 from the 3-point line and added four rebounds, three assists and four steals. Madi Crews, a sophomore from Centralia, added 13 points and 11 assists, and Shanay Dotson, a sophomore from Adna, had seven rebounds and five assists.

The Red Devils beat Linn-Benton, 86-71, on Sunday, with Lorton scoring 13 points with eight rebounds and six assists. Dotson added 7 points, six boards and five assists, and Crews scored 8 points with six assists and a pair of steals.

Lower Columbia (7-2) plays in the Clackamas Crossover on Friday and Saturday.
