CC Roundup: Lady Blazers Hold Off Clippers

OLYMPIA — South Puget Sound cut it close in the fourth quarter, but Centralia held on here Saturday night for a 61-54 NWAC West Region women’s basketball victory.

Kylie Smith and Brianna Zaragoza-Jones each scored 14 to pace the Lady Blazers, who led 55-40 after three quarters. Zaragoza-Jones added five assists, and Smith tallied five rebounds.

Tamika Etherly added 12 points for Centralia, while Black Hills product Savannah McGill led South Puget Sound with 16 points and 19 rebounds.

Centralia (17-8, 10-1 league) hosts Lower Columbia on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. The teams are tied atop the West Region standings.

Stoudamire, Clippers Rout Centralia



OLYMPIA — Dez Stoudamire scored 32 points and South Puget Sound scored 50 points to run away with an 88-54 win over Centralia here Saturday in NWAC West Region men’s basketball action.

Stoudamire went 6 of 10 from long range and 12 of 18 from the field, with six steals, three assists and just one turnover in the game to help the Clippers improve to 11-0 in West Region play.

D.J. Dorsey led Centralia with 13 points. Braden Hannold added 12, and LaBrandon Price scored 11. Austin Curry added 8 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

The Blazers shot 32 percent (20 of 63) from the floor, and trailed 38-30 at halftime.

Centralia (4-21, 1-10 league) hosts Lower Columbia on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
