CC Roundup: Lady Blazers Beat Pierce

PUYALLUP — Centralia dominated the glass en route to a 62-57 win over Pierce here Saturday in NWAC women’s basketball action.

Kylie Smith led the effort with 14 points and 13 rebounds, and the Lady Blazers held a 56-27 rebounding advantage.

Tamika Etherly added 13 points, Brianna Zaragoza-Jones scored 12 and Tianno Hanohano added 10 for Centralia, which overcame 34 turnovers in the win and led 33-16 at halftime.

The teams combined to go 8 of 42 from beyond the 3-point arc, with the Blazers converting 3 of 18 attempts.

Victoria Musika led Pierce with 12 points.

Centralia (9-7, 2-0 league) hosts Tacoma at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Pierce Dominates Centralia Men



PUYALLUP — No Centralia player hit double figures here Saturday in an 85-50 loss to Pierce in NWAC West Region men’s basketball action.

Pierce led 53-20 at halftime of the win.

Joshua Broughton led Centralia with 8 points, with Nyair Cleveland and Herve Dimandja each adding 7 points. LaBrandon Price added 5 points, five assists and eight rebounds.

Makaleb McInnis led Pierce with 19 points, and Hussayn Ford scored 12 with 12 rebounds.

Pierce outrebounded the Trailblazers 48-31, attempted 80 shots (hitting 36) and took advantage of 28 Centralia turnovers.

The Blazers (3-13, 0-2 league) host Tacoma at 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
