Walker Helps Blazers Bite Bulldogs

Centralia College held off Bellevue in the second half here on Saturday in order to preserve a 85-73 non-conference victory in men’s basketball action.

L’Marcus Walker led the Trailblazers with 24 points and added 10 rebounds for good measure. Kobe Matsen added eight points and a team-high 13 rebounds.

Centralia ran out to a 20-point lead at the intermission but Bellevue came charging back with a vengeance in the second half to make a game out of it. The Trailblazers used a strong shooting effort (34 of 68) and a slight advantage on the boards to secure the victory.

Taylor Peppinger added 15 points in the win and Jerry Boston Jr. dropped in ten points. Area products, Tyler Ashmore and Michael Adams each scored nine points while Michael Ajoge added eight points for Centralia in the win.

Centralia will play at Lower Columbia College on Wednesday.



Peninsula Puts Blazers Out to Pasture

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College used a big fourth quarter to put Centralia College away 61-49 here on Saturday in a non-conference women’s basketball contest.

The Trailblazers held a 45-42 lead heading into the final frame before the Pirates erupted for a 15 point advantage in the fourth quarter to steal the win away. Centralia shot 31 percent from the field and knocked down just 7 of 12 free throws in the contest. Peninsula also held a slight advantage in rebounding.

Leiliani Padilla of Peninsula led all scorers with 19 points. Logan Luke added 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Pirates.

Centralia was led in scoring by Selena Cudney who notched 11 points. Piper Cai, Megan Cash, and Lindsey Nurmi all added eight points each in the loss. Cudney and Cai tied for a game-high in rebounds with eight boards each.

Centralia will play at Lower Columbia College on Wednesday.
