Blazers Pull Away from Pierce in Second Half

LAKEWOOD — Centralia College out-shot and out-rebounded the Raiders here on Saturday on their way to a 72-58 win in NWAC West Conference boy basketball action.

The Blazers held Pierce College to 29 points in both halves and used a 38-point second half of their own to pull away from their conference rivals.

L’Marcus Walker scored a game-high 18 points in the win and snagged seven rebounds along the way.

Centralia shot 41 percent from the field in the contest and grabbed 54 rebounds compared to just 34 for the Raiders.

Tyler Ashmore added 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Blazers. Taylor Peppinger added 12 points and seven rebounds in the win while Kobe Matsen chipped in ten points.

Centralia (6-10, 1-1 league) will host Tacoma on Wednesday.



Four Blazers Notch Double Figures in Win Over Pierce

LAKEWOOD — Centralia College used a pair of twin 17-point quarters in the first half to go up early here on Saturday before easing into a 61-50 win over Pierce College in NWAC West conference women’s basketball action.

The Trailblazers held the Raiders bench to just two points in the contest while enjoying a balanced scoring night of their own.

Centralia coach Caleb Sells noted that Rachel Wilkerson chipped in 11 points off the bench as his team overcame some shooting woes to get by Pierce. The Blazers wound up shooting 41 percent from the floor by the end of the night.

Piper Cai tied for a game-high with 15 points for Centralia while adding seven steals and two rebounds.. Caitlin Yenne and Megan Cash each added 10 points in the win. Selena Cudney scored eight points and snagged a team-high nine rebounds. Chloe Narloski added four points and a team-high five assists.

Centralia (9-7, 2-0 league) will host Tacoma on Wednesday.
