Babe Ruth 14s: Twin Cities All-Stars Sweep on Day 1 of Districts

Posted

For their first time playing together, the Twin Cities 14 Year-Old All-Stars played remarkably well, defeating St. Helens 12-2 in the first game and blanking Grays Harbor 14-0 in the bottom half of a twinbill on the first day of the Babe Ruth 14-Year-Old All Stars District Tournament at Stan Hedwall Park on Monday.

The Twin Cities All-Stars gathered six hits in the early game against St. Helens, but took advantage of some timely walks and errors to rack the score up in the later innings to end it in five.

Lane Douglass went 2 for 4 from the plate, while Robbie Aldrich recorded a double and Jack Mallonee smacked a triple for the Twin Cities.

The pitching tandem of Brock Jones and Daniel Fagerness held St. Helens to just two hits.

Scoring opportunities were abundant in the nightcap for the Twin Cities and just the opposite for Grays Harbor.

The Twin Cities racked up 11 hits, led by a 3 for 4 performance from Colton Baker. Fagerness recorded a pair of hits, himself while Jones knocked a triple and Ryan Pedersen had a double for the Twin Cities All-Stars.

This time, Gabe O’Neil received the start and, with the help of reliever Fagerness, held the Grays Harbor All-Stars to just three hits.

“I thought the pitchers did a great job,” Twin Cities coach Shawn Jones said. “It was a good team win.”

The Twin Cities ball club will take on South Thurston this evening at 7 p.m. for seeding purposes.

On Wednesday the No. 1 and 4 teams will square off at 1 p.m. then the No. 2 and 3 teams will battle at 4 p.m. The championship game will be on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
