2B Volleyball: Loggers Skate Past MWP in Five

ONALASKA — The Loggers picked up a long, back-and-forth win over Morton-White Pass here Thursday in Central 2B League volleyball action.

The Timberwolves’ two set wins, in particular, were lengthy; MWP won the first set 28-26 and the fourth 29-27, while Onalaska won the second 25-11, the third 25-16 and the fifth by a 15-12 margin.

“We started off kind of slow and made some adjustments after that first game, and it really showed in the next two,” Onalaska coach Teri Dalsted said. “And then MWP came back. They’re a really scrappy team, and they never give up. We knew that, so both teams were playing really tough in the last two games.

Ronnie Kinsman racked up 26 kills, while Madi Dalsted added 18 kills and served 18 of 19 with nine aces and tallied 33 perfect defensive plays for the Loggers.

Also for Onalaska, Colee Masciola made 27 defensive plays and served 16 of 17 with nine aces, and Alicia Vint had 34 defensive passes, a pair of back-row kills, and was perfect on all 16 of her serves with eight aces.

Nicolle Duryea served 24 of 25 with 16 aces, and dished out 48 assists for the winners, while Heather Pannkuk served 23 of 24 with 11 aces and Bailey Cornell came off the bench and connected on all five of her serves.

“It was a really good team effort tonight,” Dalsted said.

For Morton-White Pass, Carly King dished out 32 assists with three kills and served 11 for 11. Sharon Hazen piled up 21 kills and served 12 of 12, and Zoe McCoy was cited by MWP coach Tammy Kelly for her passing and serve-receive.

“We played pretty well in the last couple games, but we couldn’t get it going early,” Kelly said.

Onalaska (6-2, 2-1 league) will play at Napavine on Tuesday. Morton-White Pass (5-3, 2-1 league) will host Toledo on Tuesday.

Pirates Sweep Cards in Quick Fashion

ADNA — The Pirates got started early and, despite being off-kilter at the start, ended the match just as quickly in a Central 2B League volleyball victory over Winlock by scores of 25-18, 25-7, 25-14 here on Thursday.

Katie Pine and Riley Wellander each notched five aces. Pine was 17 of 20 from the service stripe while Wellander served 11 of 11 with six digs.

Shanay Dotson had nine kills while Kendall Camoza had four kills and Emma Manning recorded three kills for Adna.



"It went pretty quick for us tonight," Adna coach Wendie Dotson said. "We didn't really have our rhythm to start off but we ended up fixing it. We keep working on consistency and we just hope that keeps improving."

Dotson also praised Abby Cairns for her defensive work in the back row.

Adna (3-0 league, 6-2 overall) will travel to Wahkiakum and Winlock (0-3 league, 0-6 overall) will travel to Toutle on Tuesday.

Napavine Goes to 3-0 With Sweep of Mossyrock

MOSSYROCK — The Tigers improved to 3-0 in Central 2B League play here Thursday night, putting away Mossyrock 25-18, 25-18, 25-22.

Mollie Olson racked up 19 kills with a pair of block-kills and nine digs to pace Napavine, while Abbi Music served 100 percent with 31 assists. Jordin Pruett had nine kills with 14 digs and perfect serving.

Melissa Lee added five kills and four block-kills, and played well defensively with 19 digs, Tiger coach Monica Dailey said.

Angel Parker chipped in with two block-kills, 10 digs and 22 for 22 serving, and Marie Heiner had eight kills and played a great all-around game, Dailey pointed out.

“I was really pleased with the way the girls played tonight,” Dailey said. “Everybody played with a lot of energy and a lot of teamwork.”

The Tigers took 23-14 leads in each of the first two sets, and came from behind for a win in the third.

“The girls just stayed diligent and fought back and ended up winning, so that was exciting to see,” Dailey said.

Emma Martin had seven kills and eight digs without committing an error for Mossyrock, while Paige Moorcroft had eight kills and Ava Nelson served 10 for 10. Hannah Smith served 13 for 13 with a pair of aces for the Vikings.

“We did a lot better on our serving,” Mossyrock coach Alex Nelson said, “but then we struggled on our passing and couldn’t get a rhythm tonight.”

Napavine (7-1, 3-0 league) will host Onalaska on Tuesday. Mossyrock (1-7, 0-3) will host Pe Ell on Tuesday.
