Toutle Lake Hands Adna First Loss of the Season

TOUTLE — Adna dug itself an early hole and never found its way out here Thursday, falling to Toutle Lake 42-39 in Central 2B League girls basketball action.

It was the first loss of the season for the Pirates.

“We didn’t show up ready to play and got buried in the first half,” Adna coach Chris Bannish said. “We just had a lot of bunnies that didn’t go, and we couldn’t set up our pressure early on to bother them, so it kind of became a halfcourt game.”

The Ducks also packed the key and the Pirates had trouble hitting from outside, going 6 of 29 from behind the three-point arc.

Adna tied things up at 30 early in the fourth quarter, only to see the Ducks go on a quick 10-0 run.

The Pirates clawed back into it and had a final look, but a missed three-pointer at the buzzer left the Ducks with the win.

Jordyn Grabenhorst scored 13 points to lead Toutle Lake (4-6, 1-0 league). Molly Donald added seven.

Payton Aselton scored 17 points to pace Adna. Makaela Meister added eight points and eight rebounds.

“Credit to them,” Bannish said of the Ducks. “They were ready to play and we weren’t, so we’ve got to get better tomorrow.”

Adna (8-1, 0-1 league) plays at Montesano on Saturday.

Hall Scores 26, but Napavine Edges Winlock 36-33

WINLOCK — Addison Hall had another big game, but defensive pressure helped the Tigers to a 36-33 win here Thursday night in Central 2B League girls hoops action.

Hall scored 26 of the Cardinals’ 33 points and added 14 rebounds.

Napavine, however, attempted 66 shots to the Cardinals’ 23, shot more free throws, and had a 42-26 rebounding advantage.

“It’s hard to win games when you’re behind in all those categories,” Winlock coach Tori Nelson pointed out.

Riley Beeson led Napavine with 15 points. Natalya Marcial added nine.

Hall, Nelson added, played another impressive game.

“She’s just awesome,” Nelson said. “She has to do a little bit of everything, and gets all their attention, and still manages to have big numbers.”

Winlock (3-5, 0-1 league) hosts Three Rivers Christian on Saturday at 2 p.m. Napavine (4-5, 1-0 league) hosts Battle Ground in a non-league game on Saturday.
