2B Football: Indians Wake Up in Second Half to Beat Ducks

TOUTLE — The Indians didn’t find their footing as quickly as they’d hoped here Friday night, but still had enough offense for a convincing 38-12 win over Toutle Lake in SWW 2B League River Division football action.

Duke Schaplow ran for 127 yards on eight carries and hit on five passes for 129 yards to lead Toledo, which led 12-0 at halftime but scored three times in the third quarter.

“We only played one good quarter. We were sloppy and lethargic, and honestly we played with more intensity against Adna,” Toledo coach Mike Christensen said, referring to the Indians’ Week 4 game. “We’ve got to be able to bring that intensity for a full game. If we can do that, we can be good, still.”

Jacob Marley scored on a 4-yard run, and Schaplow added a 53-yard touchdown, in the second quarter. Carlo Arceo-Hansen broke free for 47- and 7-yard scores in the third frame, then hauled in a 26-yard touchdown pass.

Toutle Lake’s two scores came on a short Chase Hadaller run, and then Hadaller tossed a touchdown to Hunter Hadaller. The Indians’ Trey Rego picked off a pass late, and notched a final touchdown on a 5-yard run from Marley.

Rego ran eight times for 92 yards, and Arceo-Hansen tallied three carries for 72 yards.

Chase Hadaller ran for 102 yards for the Ducks (1-4).

Toledo (3-2) hosts defending state champion Kalama (4-1) on Friday.
