KALAMA — Defending state champion Lucas Ashley of Adna and Winlock’s Dusty Thayer each captured individual titles at the 2B Region 1 wrestling tournament Saturday.

Ashley laid waste to his competition, pinning all three opponents to capture the 182-pound regional championship. He pinned Ocosta’s Gage Grisgby in 3:59; pinned Olwaco’s Aidyn Cohen-Tjaden in 1:24; and pinned Life Christian’s Jacob Sullivan in 4:55 in the title round.

Thayer received a first-match bye in the 126-pound quarterfinals, then pinned Ilwaco’s Tanner Brisket in 57 seconds in the semifinals. He made quick work of Kalama’s Justin Tucker in the title bout with a 22-second pin to claim the championship.

Ilwaco won the 21-team regional meet with 170.5 points. Rainier came in fourth (93); Toledo seventh (71); Onalaska 13th (34); Adna 15th (32.5); Winlock 17th (24); and Napavine 20th (7).

The top five finishers in each weight class advance to the state tournament. Sixth-place finishers move on to state as alternates.
