TOLEDO — Morton-White Pass scored 2 points in the first quarter and couldn’t quite recover as Toledo won 57-49 in a Central 2B League boys basketball game here on Friday.

Reece Wallace scored 19 points to lead Toledo and Junior Arroyo added 12 points and 11 rebounds. Matt Poquette led the Timberwolves with 23 points and Tristan Storey added 10 points.

The Indians led 10-2 after the first quarter, but MWP stormed back into the game in the second quarter, although Toledo led 22-18 at halftime.

MWP chipped away at the lead in the third quarter and cut the Toledo lead to 37-35 going into the fourth quarter. The Indians made 9 of 11 free throws in the fourth to hold on down the stretch for the win.

“We wanted to set the tempo and play good D,” Toledo coach Grady Fallon said. “It was our best team defense and all-around team game. They executed the defensive plan, which was double and get the ball out of Matt’s (Poquette) hands. I thought my bench did a great job tonight.”

Toledo (11-2, 8-1) hosts Onalaska on Wednesday while Morton-White Pass (10-3, 7-2) travels to Kalama Wednesday for a C2BL contest.

Napavine Hangs On Against Winlock

WINLOCK — Winlock had a lead in the second half, but couldn’t hang on as Napavine won 68-64 in a Central 2B League boys basketball game here on Friday.

Jordan Purvis scored 25 points, Peyton Stanley tallied 20 points and Cade Evander added 12 for the Tigers.

Noah Patching led the Cardinals with 16 points and eight rebounds. Dawson Hall tallied 13 points, Bryce Cline had 12 and Carter Whitehead chipped in 11 points.

Napavine jumped out to a 24-13 lead after the first quarter. Winlock improved in the second quarter and trailed 45-35 at halftime.

Winlock’s defense locked down on Napavine in the third quarter, outscoring the Tigers 20-8 to lead 55-53 going into the fourth quarter. Napavine was able to retake the lead in the fourth and hang on down the stretch.

“We had some moments where we were pretty good. We talked about it at halftime and made some adjustments and played good in the third quarter,” Winlock coach Nick Bamer said. “They were able to shut us down in the fourth. We panicked, we haven’t been there before. It was a learning experience.”

Bamer said Noah Patching played a great game and stepped up in a big league game.

“I’m upset we weren’t able to win, but we have the right mindset and mentality that we can start playing with these guys,” Bamer said. “We just didn’t quite get it done tonight.”

Napavine (10-2, 7-2) faces Ridgefield on Monday in a nonleague game at 4 p.m. at Lower Columbia in the MLK Tribute game. Winlock (9-4, 5-4) hosts Adna on Wednesday in a C2BL game.

Pirates Sail Past Ducks

TOUTLE — Cody Young scored 29 points to lead the Pirates to a 68-54 win over Toutle Lake in a Central 2B League boys basketball game here on Friday night.

Young scored 15 in the first quarter. Austen Apperson added 12 points for the Pirates.

Logan Grabenhorst led the Ducks with 20 points.

Adna led 21-12 after the first quarter, but Toutle trailed just 38-31 at halftime.

The Ducks tried a comeback in the third quarter and outscored the Pirates 17-16, but Adna’s pressure defense in the fourth was too much.

“We’re pumped to get out of Toutle with a win. Credit to them, they definitely played inspired basketball,” Adna coach Luke Salme said, noting that the Ducks were without point guard Nate Hoff. “(Cody) Young did what Cody does. He played lights-out the entire game. Our pressure got to them a little bit and we stretched it out late in the third.”

Adna (12-1, 8-1) travels to Winlock on Wednesday for a C2BL game.

Haight Leads Loggers Past Mossyrock

MOSSYROCK — Ashton Haight scored a career-high 32, and Onalaska overcame a slow start in a 74-37 C2BL boys hoops win over Mossyrock here Friday night.

Haight scored 24 in the first half and hit 12 free throws in the win.

“We couldn’t get in front of him,” Mossyrock coach Jordan Hunter said. “It seemed like every time he went into the lane we just fouled the snot out of him.”

As a result, he added, every Mossyrock starter fouled out, and the Vikings were left with four players on the floor at the game’s conclusion.

Kayden Allison added 15 points for Onalaska, which trailed 11-9 after a quarter. The Loggers, though, took a 30-19 lead into halftime and scored 19 in the third quarter to push the lead to 20.

Evan Gootgeld led Mossyrock with 11 points. Dyllan Padrick added 9, and Lucas Johnson scored 8.

Jose Hernandez, Ryan Bellino, Luis Hilario-Garcia and Ocean Picarello all played well in a reserve role, Hunter said.

“Our bench players really put in some work, especially at the end of the game,” he noted. “I couldn’t be more proud of the kids as a whole, playing hard and never giving up.”

Mossyrock (1-11, 1-8 league) hosts Rainier on Wednesday. Onalaska (4-9, 2-7 league) plays at Toledo on Wednesday.

Kalama Defeats Pe Ell On Buzzer Beater

KALAMA — Pe Ell’s Kaleb McCalden hit a layup with 8.6 seconds to tie the game, but Kalama dribbled the length of the floor and made a layup as time expired to lift the Chinooks to a 52-50 win in a Central 2B League boys basketball game here on Friday.

McCalden led the Trojans with 15 points and Bradley Prestegord added 10 points.

The Chinooks led by 10 at one point in the third quarter, but Pe Ell cut the lead to 38-35 heading into the fourth quarter.

In a back and forth final quarter, the Chinooks layup at the buzzer was the difference.

“I thought we did the right thing. The kids played a good ball game,” Trojan coach Chris Fitzgerald said. “It was the first time the kids are getting a chance to run a play and showing it on their face for the first time.

“For the first time, they actually acted like they cared we lost. It’s a step in the right direction for us,” Fitzgerald added. “Road game at Kalama, I’ll take the win any day, but I’m not disappointed in the effort.”

Pe Ell (1-11, 0-9) travels to Toutle Lake on Wednesday for a C2BL game.
