Yost Leads Pe Ell Past South Bend

SOUTH BEND — Jeremiah Yost notched a big double-double, and Pe Ell’s offense picked up after a rough start to beat South Bend, 55-43, here Thursday night in Pacific 2B League boys basketball action.

Yost scored a season-high 25 points and added 14 rebounds, but the Trojans trailed 9-8 after a quarter and 27-25 at halftime.

“We started off pretty rough. We were missing some easy looks, and we started to finally get those in the second quarter,” Pe Ell coach Clape Lusk said. “Yost played really well down the stretch. We play really hard, but sometimes we make it too hard on ourselves.”

Max Smith added nine points with 11 rebounds, four assists and seven steals for the Trojans, and Joey McCalden chipped in nine points.

“Joey had some good stretches,” Lusk said. “He hit a couple big shots.”

Mason Estle led South Bend with nine points.

Pe Ell (3-6, 2-5 league) plays at North Beach on Saturday.

Kalama Too Much for Mossyrock

MOSSYROCK — The Chinooks got off to a hot start here Thursday night, pouring in 37 first-half points and beating Mossyrock 63-42 in Central 2B League boys hoops action.

Tommy Brandenburg scored 20 for Kalama, which led 37-11 by halftime.

“We came out slow and didn’t play any defense,” Mossyrock coach Adam Deck said. “They just drove right by us for lay-ins.”

The bright spot for Mossyrock, however, was the second half. Gunner Mulligan scored all of his team-high 14 points after the break, and a switch to zone defense helped the Vikings create turnovers and kick-start the offense.

Ryan Bellino added nine points for Mossyrock, which was without 6-foot-5 center Dyllan Padrick.

Kalama, however, was without sophomore guard Jackson Esary. Jack Doerty added 10 points for the Chinooks.

Mossyrock (2-5) hosts Friday Harbor on Friday, then faces Concrete on Saturday at noon in Toledo.
