Posted

The upstart Pirates are state champions.

Adna, a team that finished tied for third in the Central 2B League and fourth in the District 4 tournament, made history on Saturday by beating Colfax, 4-2, in the State 2B Baseball Tournament's championship game at Ed Wheeler Field.

It was the first state baseball championship in program history for Adna.

The Pirates broke a 2-2 tie in the sixth inning with RBI singles from Wes Wilson and Tyson Gray. Wilson, who started on the mound, then shut down Colfax (24-2) over the final two innings to seal the win.

Adna had blown out perennial powerhouse DeSales, 10-1, on Friday in the State 2B semifinals.

Toledo, meanwhile, lost 4-0 to DeSales in the third/fourth place game of the State 2B tournament.
