2B Softball: No Shortage of Hits in Pirates' Sweep of PWV

Posted

ADNA — The cold weather, the light drizzle and the early point in the season didn’t do anything to slow down the bats here on Saturday.

Adna and Pe Ell-Willapa Valley combined for 44 hits over 14 innings of work in a Central 2B League doubleheader, with the host Pirates coming out on top 11-8 in the opener and 12-4 in the late game.

“I’m happy with the way we’re looking right now,” Adna (4-0) coach Mike Raschke said. “It was a little cold, with both teams adjusting through the weather, but both teams just hit the ball hard.”

Aubri Jimenez led Adna at the plate in Game 1, with a two doubles and a triple among her four hits to drive in 4 runs. Josie Sandrini and Shanay Dotson each added two hits, and Adna took advantage of five miscues by Pe Ell-Willapa Valley.

The Titans piled up eight hits, with Cheyenne Brooks knocking a homer and a double and Lacey Joner homering.

Sam Rolfe worked all seven innings and got the win for Adna.

Freshman Jenikka Poppe pitched the Pirates to a win in Game 2, allowing 10 hits but only giving up 4 runs.

Cheyenne Gilbertson had four hits, with two triples, and drove in 4 runs, while Jimenez and Katie Pine each had two hits for Adna.

Dakota Brooks had two hits, and Lexi Brooks added three hits for PWV.

Adna will play at Toledo on Wednesday. Pe Ell-Willapa Valley (2-3, 2-2 league) will host Mossyrock on Wednesday.
