CC Hoops: Lady Blazers Rebound Their Way Past Chokers

     On a night where they missed 54 shots, tenacious offensive rebounding may have made the biggest difference as the Blazers improved to 3-0 in league play with an 82-52 victory over the Chokers here Wednesday night.

     “We attacked the offensive boards really well, giving ourselves second chance points,” said Centralia CC coach Shane Schutz.

     For the game, the Blazers grabbed 57 rebounds compared to the Chokers 40. Twenty nine of those boards were of the offensive variety for Centralia.

     When they corralled those offensive boards, Centralia looked to score from the one place where they were not cold, the three point line.

     “We shot well from the three-point line,” said Schutz. “I thought our kids shot really well and moved the ball really well, finding the person with the extra pass.”

      Leah Davis led Centralia with 13 points, including 3 of 6 shooting from downtown. Karina Gee added 9 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

      Courtney Kaupu led the Blazers rebounding effort with 12 boards and chipped in 8 points.

     “Every day this group, as hard as its been in terms of trying to figure things, this team’s chemistry has been awesome,” said Schutz. “Now we’re starting to gain confidence and swagger to go with the chemistry, and now the games are starting to be more fun.”



     Centralia (7-6, 3-0 league) plays at Highline Community College next Monday.

Centralia Men Pick up First Victory

     Marced Farley led the Trailblazers with 17 points in a 75-65 NWAACC West Division victory Wednesday night in Centralia’s Michael Smith Gymnasium.

     Centralia shot 50 percent from the field and after leading 34-32 at halftime and were able to extend their lead by eight in the second half.

     The Trailblazers dished the ball to solid effect, as 14 assists allowed three different players to reach double digits and two more to come within a bucket of that.

     Patrick Broussard added 13 points and John Dumetz had 14. Broussard also led the team in rebounded with five boards.

     Grays Harbor shot 12 percent from the three-point line and had just six team assists compared with 20 turnovers

     Centralia (1-10 overall, 1-2 league) will play at Highline next Monday
