Olympia native Patrick Nugent shot a second day-low 69 to win the 2014 Lewis County Amateur Golf Tournament Sunday at Riverside Golf Course in Chehalis.

With course conditions at their toughest and greens at their quickest, Nugent shot a 70 on Saturday and was tied for third

Nugent, a former Olympia High School and Grays Harbor College golfer, posted the strongest performance out of any golfer on Sunday, finishing with a total score of 139.

Nugent was an alternate qualifier for the U.S. Open this year, and the 21-year old was perviously named Grays Harbor College’s Male Athlete of the Year.

Centralia’s Deter Voetberg finished first in the Lewis County Amateur’s Net Scores — which adjusts for a golfer’s handicap. Voetberg, along with Nugent, took home a $750 payout in Riverside Golf Course store credit for their top scores.

They won the most money from a prize fund of $9,000. This year was the 31-year old event’s biggest year, with 152 golfers including past champions Jeff Byrnes, Casey Adams, Tom Lewis and Jason Boettner.

Finishing second at the Amateur was Jon McCaslin, who notched a 142 total score. He walked away with a $650 payout.

Casey Adams shot a tournament-low round of 68 on Saturday but fell off with a 78 on the second day to finish tied for third with Aaron Randall, carding a total of 146. Both walked away with $475 in prize money.

Steve Rude finished fifth, carding a 147 and earning $400, while W.F. West graduate Jared Rasmussen finished sixth with a 148 and collected $325. Rasmussen was in second-place after a first day 69 but added 10 strokes onto his score the second time around.

Ryan Earl, who was tied with Nugent for third after Saturday, shot an 80 on Sunday and finished with a total of 150

Voetberg finished tied for eighth with Tim Myers with an unadjusted final score of 151, and Casey Winters wrapped up the top 10 with a 152.

Tucker Voetberg, the brother of Deter, finished tied for 27th with a total score of 163. Rochester golfer Deric Hawes tied for 49th with a two-round mark of 170.
