2A Softball: Warriors Fight Off Centralia Rally for 6-4 Win

Posted

ROCHESTER — The Warrior defense was able to keep Centralia’s late-game efforts in check en route to a 6-4 nonleague victory here on Monday. Joni Lancaster led Rochester, going 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and two doubles.

Freshman pitcher Hunter Hahn went the distance against the Tigers, giving up nine hits but blanking Centralia for the first four innings. Rochester led 6-0 after those first four frames.

“Hunter did a great job and our defense is doing great,” Rochester coach Jared Lancaster said. “Our great defense is what won us this ballgame.”

Jaelin Lancaster and Madison Justice each had two hits, while Lancaster had 2 RBIs for the Warriors and Justice had two doubles. Rochester finished with 10 hits.

Payton Cline and Payton Pocklington each had two hits for Centralia.

Rochester (13-3, 9-3 league) will host Evergreen 2A/1A League foe Elma on Tuesday. Centralia hosts nonleague foe Kelso on Wednesday.

Errors Hurt Bearcats in 12-9 Loss to Chieftains

Errors allowed Columbia River to jump out early and W.F. West couldn’t recover in a 12-9 nonleague softball loss Thursday in Chehalis.

Columbia River was up 7-0 after its first two frames and while the Bearcats battled back, they didn’t have enough steam in a 5-run seventh inning to snag the victory.

“We had to battle because we had dug ourselves into a hole early,” W.F. West coach Mike Keen said. “That’s something that has plagued us a little this season.

Freshman Ashlee Vadala hit two home runs for the Bearcats, one in the second and one in the seventh that helped spark the W.F. West rally. Down 12-4 in their last frame, the Bearcats got Vadala’s homer, a handful of hits and a few walks but still came up short.

Jessica McKay also finished the game with two hits, but the Bearcats finished the game with five errors.

W.F. West (13-3) plays more nonleague ball at Prairie on Wednesday and then gets back into league play, hosting Tumwater. The Bearcats need just one more league win to clinch the Evergreen 2A Conference title.
