The Bearcats hosted their first track meet of the season on Wednesday and had three-fourths of the Evergreen 2A Conference in attendance, with Chase Olsen and Terek Thornburg each winning two events in the three-team meet.

The W.F. West boys squad won the team scoring portion of the event, while the Bearcat girls were second to Black Hills. Centralia took third on both counts.

Olsen won the shot put in 39 feet, 6 inches, and took the discus in 131-2, with both marks coming just short of Olsen’s personal-bests.

Thornburg won the 800 meters in 2:08.62 and the 3200 in 10:33.72, while teammate J.P. Guyer rounded out the Bearcat distance sweep with a win in the 1600 (4:48.43).

Eric Braun added a win in the 400 in 52.56, a time Bearcat coach Autumn Ledgerwood said puts him among the top three 2A runners in the state.

Justin Wendling won the triple jump (37-5.5) and took third in the 400, and Nolan Camlin won the 300 meter hurdles (43.73) and took fourth in the 110 hurdles.

Cole Fisher was second in the 300 hurdles, and Wendling, Braun, Fisher and Camlin won the 4x400 relay in 3:39.99.

McKenna Moon, Hannah Tak and Allie Haakenson stood out for the W.F. West girls. Tak won the 100 hurdles (17.99) and the 300 hurdles (52.13), while taking second in the long jump. Moon won the high jump at 5-0, and the 800 in 2:31.01 — the top 2A girls time in the state this season. Haakenson won the long jump in 15-1 and the triple jump in 31-1.

Ashley McKenna won the 1600 (6:12.71), Emma Moon won the 3200 (12:52), and the Lady Bearcats won the 4x200 and 4x400 relays.

The Bearcats will head to Centralia’s Tiger Stadium for the Lewis County Invite on Saturday.

Triana, Sanford Each Win Hurdles for Rochester

ROCHESTER — Cody Triana and Kendra Sanford each picked up wins here Wednesday in a three-team Evergreen 2A/1A League track meet.

Triana, the defending State 1A champion in the 110-meter hurdles, won his signature event in 15.60, edging out the second-place runner by 2.3 seconds on a surface that Rochester coach Troy Holman noted was wet and fairly worn out.

Sanford, meanwhile, won the girls 300 hurdles in 53.46, and finished third in the 100 hurdles, while teaming up with Alexa Black, Brianna Tomtan and Sharon Smith to win the 4x200 relay in 1:53.87.

Smith also won the 400 in 1:06.07, and Tomtan was second in the 100 hurdles. Black was third in the 400, and Keeli Demers was second in the javelin (101 feet, 10 inches), and fourth in the shot put and discus.

Back on the boys end of things, Rochester’s Tanner Nelson won the high jump at 5-4, and Peter Holman was the runner-up in the 1600 (4:52.57) and the 800 (2:14.04), with personal-record times in each race. Jordan McLemore added a second-place finish in the long jump and a fourth-place finish in the 100.

Rochester will run at the Lewis County Invite at Centralia’s Tiger Stadium on Saturday.
