Prep Girls Tennis: Centralia Falls to 4A Olympia

OLYMPIA — The Tigers ran up against a tough test here Friday, against a 4A Olympia squad that, like Centralia, won its league title and district titles last season.

The bigger Bears were a bit too much for Centralia, with a 5-1 nonleague girls tennis victory.

Sydney Creel and Hayden Blaser, in the No. 2 doubles slot, picked up a 6-0, 6-4 victory for the Tigers’ only win.

“(They) played near flawless tennis during their first set and didn’t drop a game,” Centralia coach Deb Keahey said. “They moved well together as a team, and were always in control of the second set.”

Jaycee Foster and Hannah Jeffries took Olympia’s Tiffany Barker and Audrey Berghoff to three sets in a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 loss that lasted three hours.

“For the avid tennis doubles fan, this was a fun match to watch,” Keahey said. “It had everything — big serves, tough returns, great volleys and strategic lobs. Both teams played competitive, tough tennis.”

Centralia (2-1) will host Washougal on Monday.
