2B Baseball: Tigers Dominate, Sweep Vikings

MOSSYROCK — The Tigers made their stay in Mossyrock as short as possible, ending both games of their doubleheader in five innings and defeating the Vikings 11-0 and 14-1 in a Central 2B League baseball twinbill here on Thursday.

Cole Doughty went the distance for the Tigers in the afternoon game, allowing just one hit the shutout, and going 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Mac Fagerness went 2 for 3, and the Tigers scored 4 runs in each of the first two innings to pull away early.

"The first two innings were horrible for us," Mossyrock coach Darin Bullock said. "We committed two costly errors that should have been routine and that put us in a hole. After that, we settled in and played well, but you can't take away the first two innings.

The evening game was just the opposite, with the score being knotted at 1-1 until the fourth frame where Napavine once again went off for 6 runs, followed by 7 more to end the game early.

The Vikings were plagued by several walks, errors and hit batters to run the score up quickly with the Tigers only connecting on six hits to earn their 14 runs, headlined by a Brady Woodrum double that scored 2.

"It was just one of those innings where nothing could go right and the same thing with the next one," Bullock said. "It wasn't like the guys weren't working hard and trying but they had some issues to work through today. Hopefully, we can bounce back and play well on Wednesday."

Mossyrock (1-3) will travel to Pe Ell for a twinbill on Wednesday. Napavine (4-0 league, 4-1 overall) will host Winlock for a doubleheader on Wednesday.

Ducks Score 46 in Sweep of Ony

TOUTLE — The Loggers’ youth showed a bit here Thursday in a 10-0, 36-2 Central 2B League baseball sweep at the hands of a veteran Toutle Lake squad.

Duck ace Matt Morton held the Loggers to one hit — a double by Roberto Patraca — in the 10-0 opening win, which Toutle Lake broke open with 5 runs in the second inning.

“They took advantage of the opportunities against us, but we’re young and learning,” Onalaska coach Kyle Smaciarz said. “We caught the ball, fielded the ball, and threw strikes for the most part.”

The nightcap, however, was a rough outing for the Loggers. Toutle Lake led 14-0 after an inning and 25-1 after three frames, before tacking on the final 11 runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Mike Duran had a single and an RBI for Onalaska, while Jack Beck and Kyle Trulson each added hits and Ernie Roque drove in a run. The Loggers struck out only once in the nightcap, but left 10 runners on base.

Toutle Lake had 20 hits, while the Loggers hit four batters, committed eight errors and issued a few too many bases on balls.

“It was a combination of really good hitting, and we committed eight errors,” Smaciarz said. “So defensively we played extremely poor, and offensively they played extremely well.”

Onalaska (0-4) will host Morton-White Pass on Wednesday.

Pirates Derail Navigators

LACEY — The Pirates got a multitude of experience on the hill, throwing a different ace on the mound in each of the six innings, doing so because their offense provided a comfortable cushion. The Pirates ended it in six with an 11-1 nonleague baseball victory over Northwest Christian here on Thursday.

Isaac Ingle led the Pirate offense with 2 RBIs on a 3 for 3 plate performance. Bryce McCloskey went 2 for 4 with an RBI, Blaine Latimer added a double, and Marcus Hampton chipped in a 2-RBI double for Adna.

"The Navigators are a young team and we did a nice job hitting," Adna coach Jon Rooklidge said. "The pitching was off-speed and we're going to have to face that some time, but we did a good job staying off the middle."

The Pirate defense wasn't lax, either, committing no errors and preventing the Navigator offense from getting a single clean hit.

Adna (0-2 league, 1-2 overall) will host Pe Ell on Saturday in a twinbill.
