Babe Ruth 15s: Twin Cities Drops the Hammer on Camas

Posted

The signs around Bearcat Baseball Stadium on Friday evening may have directed fans toward the 15-year-old Southern Washington Babe Ruth State Tournament.

Camas, however, inadvertently walked another round of host Twin Cities' on-field batting practice.

The local All-Stars scored a whopping 19 runs in the first two innings and rolled through the next three innings on cruise control in a 19-0 win, improving to 4-0 in tournament pool play.

Twin Cities led 8-0 after an eight-hit first inning that saw all but one of its starters score.

"It's easy when we hit the ball the way we hit the ball," Twin Cities coach Andy Forgione said. "We're hitting the ball hard right now, and that's good."

That first inning featured a double from Nole Wollan, a bunt single by Tyson Guerrero, a single from Austin Emery, a sacrifice fly by Tyler Pallas, an RBI single from Joey Aliff, an RBI double by Jacob Cleary, and a 2-run single by Tysen Paul. Guerrero, in his second trip to the plate, added a 2-run single.

Finally, after a half-hour on the field, Camas got its first shot in the batter's box — and was set down on 10 pitches by Twin Cities starter Jacob Cleary.

That set the stage for an 11-run second inning, featuring seven more hits and highlighted by a 2-run triple to left-center field from Cleary in his second plate appearance of the inning.

Camas, meanwhile, didn't manage a hit until the fourth inning. Cleary worked the first two frames and struck out three, while Austin Emery pitched the third and struck out the side.

"Our pitchers are throwing strikes. That's the key to this team," Forgione said. "The rest of the way, the key is going to be our pitchers throwing strikes, and playing defense."

Guerrero finished the game with four hits, while Wollan, Aliff and Brock Holman each had three.

Twin Cities has outscored its opponents 73-5 over four games in the tournament, and will wrap pool play with a 4 p.m. game against Kalama-Woodland-Ridgefield-La Center this afternoon.

The tournament concludes on Sunday, with the second- and third-place pool play teams facing off at 10 a.m. and the winner moving on to play the top-ranked pool play team an hour later, all back at W.F. West High School in Chehalis.
