Centralia’s doubles teams swept their matches, but a tight No. 3 singles match was the difference for the Tigers in a tiebreaker win over Black Hills in Evergreen 2A Conference girls tennis action on Friday.

Jaycee Foster and Hannah Jeffries won 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles, while Hayden Blaser and Mali Christian won 6-2, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles.

Hannah Gundersen and Taviana Keahey rounded out the sweep with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

“Jaycee and Hannah dominated their match,” Centralia coach Deb Keahey said. “Hayden and Mali moved well together, and Hannah and Taviana played really well at the net.”

Jesse Scherer, at No. 3 singles, lost a two-hour 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 match, but her win in the first set gave Centralia the tiebreaking edge in sets won, 7-6.

“Jesse did a fantastic job making sure this resulted in a team win,” Keahey said. “I am proud of all these girls and all of their hard work this season.”

Centralia (5-2) will play a nonleague match at Mark Morris on Monday.

W.F. West Falls to Tumwater

TUMWATER — The Bearcats had missed chances in a 5-1 loss to Evergreen 2A Conference foe Tumwater here on Friday. Tumwater swept the singles matchups while Emma Lund and Mya Davis picked up W.F. West’s lone victory of the day.

“I thought for the most part our doubles teams had their chances,” W.F. West coach Jack State said. “The first doubles matchup was close and in the singles, the biggest thing was just being consistent.”

Tumwater’s Nicole Howard picked up the No. 1 singles victory over Kyla Richards, 6-1, 6-2.

“Howard gets everything back and doesn’t make mistakes,” State said.

Howard’s teammate barely got past W.F. West’s No. 2 singles player Isabelle VanderStoep, in a tight 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 match.

“With Kyla and Isabelle, they were hitting well but their opponents kept hitting the ball back and that made them a little anxious and caused some errors,” State said. “In doubles, we need to finish things when we get the chance.”

Lund and Davis defeated Cenna Larson and Maykala Kee 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) in W.F. West’s longest match and lone point of the day.

W.F. West (4-3, 2-1 league) plays at rival Centralia on Wednesday.

Beavers Down Rockets

TENINO — The Beavers stayed focused and grounded the Rockets in a 4-1 Evergreen 1A Division tennis action here on Friday. Tenino got singles victories from Ali-Jo Vens and Brandi Bratton along with sweeping the double matchups.

Vens won her No. 1 singles matchup against Michaela Lafonte 6-3, 6-3 while Bratton notched a win in No. 3 singles action, downing Sarah Langwright 6-1, 6-2.

“Ali-Jo served very consistently and she had great angle shots and hustle,” Tenino coach Patti Blanford said. “Brandi had good competition but she used a lot of deep angle shots too and had consistent shots. Angel Sanchez, even though she lost at No. 2 singles, works very hard and is improving every match.”

The No. 1 doubles squad for the Beavers, Erin Engebreth and Natalie Hall defeated Castle Rock’s top squad 6-3, 6-4, while Tenino’s Natsuki Funada/Gaby Virgen downed Courtney Wlety and Myra Villellobos 6-2, 6-0.

Tenino (4-3, 3-0 league) hosts Northwest Christian on Monday.
