The Bearcats won a pair of doubles matches, but couldn’t unseat undefeated Tumwater in a 4-2 loss on Monday afternoon in Evergreen 2A Conference girls tennis action in Chehalis.

Kyla Richards and Isabel VanderStoep won 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 1 doubles slot.

“They were a little shaky to start the first set, and then they kind of picked their game up and really dominated the second set,” W.F. West coach Jack State said.

Emma Lund and Hannah Cummings tallied W.F. West’s second match win, winning 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 2 doubles spot.

“The team they played (Senna Larson and McKenna Key) has been back and forth as the 1 or 2 team for Tumwater all year long,” State said. “Emma and Hannah really worked hard to get in the right position and do the right things.”

Payton Rothlin lost to Nicole Howard, 6-2, 6-0, in the No. 1 singles match but played well, State added.

“Overall, I was pretty pleased with the way our kids played today,” State said. “Tumwater’s undefeated, and the kids came off the court and they felt like they played pretty well.”

W.F. West (5-6-1) is scheduled to play at Black Hills on Wednesday.

Tigers Use Tiebreaker to Get Past Black Hills, 4-3

TUMWATER — The Tigers were able to use a dominant performance by their doubles team to come away with the games won tiebreaker in a 4-3 Evergreen 2A Conference victory over Black Hills here on Monday. Centralia's doubles teams only lost two games, while their singles players won a total of 15 games for tiebreaker margin of 51-38.

"Our doubles looked really confident today," Centralia coach Deb Keahey said. "All three teams are really coming together and playing with good energy."

No. 1 Centralia doubles combo of Jaycee Foster and Hayden Blaser defeated Vivian Glass and Virginia Dalietos 6-0, 6-0.

"Jaycee and Hayden made the doubles match look effortless," Keahey said. "They covered the court so well and opened up the other side real well."

No. 2 Tiger duo of Sydney Creel and Hannah Jeffries downed Black Hills' Madison Schneider and Kertana Madeli 6-0, 6-0.

"Sydney and Hannah were hitting with some power and accuracy today," Keahey said. "They looked like they were having fun out there just pounding the ball. Their serves were hit with just as much power. This duo is a force in doubles, and as far as tennis goes, they are a quiet storm."

In No. 3 doubles action, Mali Christian and Ryann Chamberlain defeated the Wolves' Elina Dickinson and Alisha Langley 6-2, 6-0.

"Ryann and Mali continue to work well together and had beautiful put away volleys today," Keahey said.

While all three singles players lost, they certainly didn't go down quietly. Black Hills Bailey Weatherby defeated Arleth Ramirez 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 1 matchup.

"She was ahead 3-1 in the second set and just had a few key unforced errors which turned the tide," Keahey said. "Her skills have improved so much this season along with her confidence in her game."

Centralia's No. 2 singles player Hannah Gunderson fell 6-2, 6-2 and Brittany Ryser downed the Tigers' Taviana Keahey 6-2, 6-1 in No. 3 singles action.

"Hannah put up a good battle against a seasoned singles play," Keahey said. "Taviana played a consistent game and had some long rallies but Black Hills prevailed."

Centralia plays their last home match against Tumwater on Wednesday and then their final away match at Capital on Thursday. Sub-districts are next Tuesday and Wednesday.
