MORTON — Napavine clinched the Central 2B League regular season baseball title with a doubleheader sweep of Morton-White Pass here on Monday.

Wyatt Stanley pitched a one-hitter for the Tigers in the first game, a 14-0 victory, and the Tigers used three pitchers in a 13-4 win in the nightcap.

“I thought Napavine is the best team we’ve faced all year,” Morton-White Pass coach Jeff Rashoff said. “In the second game we played okay again them.”

Stanley struck out 13 in the first matchup, while the Tigers collected 17 hits total. Tyler McCarty went 3 for 4 with a triple and 3 RBIs. Catcher Brady Woodrum was 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs.

Sam Fagerness, Stanley and Tucker Dekoker each added two hits.

In the second game, Napavine jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first three innings and completed the sweep with a 13-4 victory. The Timberwolves didn’t lay down, getting hits from James Sword, Quinton Berkompas, Gavin Higdon, Josh Morris and Reid Worden. Sword also had 2 RBIs.

“I think the difference between the two games is that we played without a little fear and had a little bit of fun,” Rashoff said.

Morton-White Pass will play an exhibition game at Mossyrock on Thursday, while Napavine finished first in the regular-season standings with a 14-2 record and will go into the District 4 2B Baseball Tournament with a No. 1 seed.

Tournament action begins on Saturday.

Adna Splits With Wahkiakum

ADNA — The Pirates brought out the bats in both games, but the hits weren’t quite timely enough in the nightcap as Adna split a Central 2B League doubleheader, 10-1 and 7-4, with Wahkiakum here on Monday.

Adna rapped out 11 hits in the 10-1 opening-game win, with pitcher Spencer Burdick working all seven innings, allowing four hits and striking out 11 with one walk.

The Pirates led 3-0 after two innings and tacked on 5 runs in the fifth.

“We were a little slow out of the gates, but other than that, we played pretty well and pitched well,” Adna coach Jon Rooklidge said. “Not a bad game, there.”

Burdick went 2 for 3 with a double, Isaac Ingle was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and a triple, Nolan Balzer went 2 for 4 and knocked in 3 runs and Wes Wilson was 2 for 4 and drove in 2 runs for Adna.

In the nightcap, however, the Pirates stranded 11 runners on base in a 7-4 loss.

“We had times where we hit the ball hard right at them, we got ourselves picked off in the midst of a big rally, we had strikeouts in the middle of big rallies,” Rooklidge said. “We just had every opportunity to put this game away, and we could not do it.”

Bryce McCloskey went 2 for 3 with a double, Ingle and Wes Wilson each doubled and drove in 2 runs and Balzer was 2 for 2.

Adna (15-5, 13-5 league) has concluded its regular season, and will enter District 4 2B Baseball Tournament play on Saturday.
