SPOKANE — W.F. West's Carly Noble trimmed a whopping 10 strokes off of her Day 1 score here at Meadowwood Golf Course to wrap up the State 2A Girls Golf Tournament.
Noble tied for 35th and made the Day 1 cut after shooting a 96 over 18 holes.
On Thursday, however, she shot an 86, giving her a two-day total of 182 and putting her in a tie for 25th place with Selah's Morgan Edwards.
The sophomore started steadily improving in early May, according to Bearcat coach Bruce Thompson, and dropping an average nine-hole score that had been around 55.
Her final day at state featured a 43 on the front nine and a 43 on the back nine, on her third day playing the same course in Spokane.
“What it really shows is how a person can think their way through a stressful situation,” Thompson said. “She just kept getting better all through the 18-hole tournaments we played in the month of May.”
Ephrata's Kenedee Peters — a freshman — won the tournament by 19 strokes, shooting a 71 on Wednesday and a 68 on Thursday for a 139. Ephrata had three golfers in the top 10 and won the state team title with 121 points.
Clarkston's Grace Frazier and Woodland's Faith Udy tied for second with two-day scores of 158.
