Twin Cities 14s Raising Money for Regional Trip

The Twin Cities 14-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars will be raising money through several avenues this week to help cover travel expenses to Whitefish, Mont., for the Pacific Northwest Regional Tournament.

The team will be running the concession stand at the 15-year-old state tournament in Chehalis today and Sunday, as well as selling raffle tickets at the tournament and holding a car wash at the Napavine McDonald's restaurant from 10 to 2 p.m. today.

Players will also be selling tickets for a "dive-in" showing of The Sandlot at the Thorbecke's Aquatic Center in Centralia on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m., and hosting a hot dog dinner with drinks, popcorn, dessert and raffles outside the Aquatic Center on Sunday night.

The team won the Southern Washington Babe Ruth State Tournament in Kennewick last weekend to qualify for regionals.

Football Officials Sought

The Southwest Washington Football Officials Association is looking for new members to call prep games.

New officials usually work games on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights, and the SWWFOA meets on Wednesday nights throughout the season. Officials must register with the WIAA at a cost of $40, and new officials will spend around $200 on uniforms and equipment for their first season and work between 10 and 20 games, earning between $400 and $600.

The association is looking for younger individuals to become involved with officiating, according to association head Bob Berg, though anyone interested would be more than welcome.

Anyone interested can contact Berg at (360) 269-6466 or 807-4772.
